People always ask me why I never attend school
I want to tell them "I'm too emotionally vacant to care"
"I know I'm not destined for great things" I'd announce
"I'll be dead before I'm 20, 
I have no kids to look forward to
and no desire to marry"
So why should I spend 13 years of my life cooped up 
Learning the value of x
when I cant even find value in waking up in the morning.

Been there. I was lucky enough that the mental hospital I was sent to after my first attempt had an onsite school. She was able to catch me up on my science, English and math credits or else graduation wouldn't have been possible and in the end I didn't anyways. Passed my GED with flying colors though. I'm not an idiot just like I can tell your not and no one treats me like one either but I don't make it a habit of telling people I'm a drop out. Most the time I get asked were I went to college. Always makes me chuckle. I find our school system very disheartening because one day you might not feel how you do now but the choices you make today will affect tomorrow. I wish I could flip the switch and make life peachy for you now. I whole heartily do.

I take that the"I" is you. Negativity runs through this fine poem. But if that is how you feel then so be it, making poems, will out in the end, especially, fine poems like this.

Saryha, I didn't think I'd make 30......I'm 71 years old now. Been there done that, felt a lot like you did. I what was called "a late bloomer".....The clouds that were there, didn't disappear, the sun was also there. the sun for me, was good womanizers/mentors. Caring from strangers was best for me. They didn't take  me apart, just gave their compassion, honestly.

There is power in a psychological and custodial sentence. Once upon a time, I used to inject Heroin; I sold drugs; I lived in a hostel for the homeless; and I cheated death. I am no better then you, whatsoever. And I thank you for your unashamed openness. I am a psychiatric nurse mental health therapist. And from the bottom of my heart, I know that you have significance despite what you may think and/or feel. I have my Professor Emeritus status in the school of life too. I have no regrets. But I have learned so much. Now I realise that I have simply scratched the surface of this shallow veneer of existence. I agree with you about the value of X. How fuckin' boring. Forgive my Scottish blatancy. As for getting up in the morning, I would encourage you into swing your fuckin' legs out of bed and don't put your head into 3rd gear. Acknowledge your thoughts and feelings, but don't let them take you for a walk on the wild side. They are lions with no teeth. And by the way: I genuinely acknowledge your value. It's people like you and I who have been through the depths of despair that can carry a very bright fuckin' torch through some very dark alleys. Before I go, I have to say - you are not a fortune-teller, yet you make assertions about the future when you don't even know what today will truly bring. I invite you to converse with me...if you will. If not, then have a nice life, and don't forget what I've said. Okay?

Listen homegirl, there is worth in this life that exists apart from your marriage, your children. YOU have worth as a human being. There is a lot of negative pressure on females in this society, specifically girls your age. You don't have to be anything you don't want to be. There is a new movement brewing in this country, one in which women are valued for their minds. Feed your mind, you will bloom and find value. The world has enough ignorant people as it is, you will see what I mean one day, if you don&#8217;t already.

Secondly, Take it from somebody who dropped out of high school, learning the value of x now can enable you to excel in college. Wait, learn the what of x? The VALUE. Mathematics is the study of the relation of elements, and the patterns of mathematics can be applied to critical thought in general, can help you to distinguish between which pressures are your inner spirit, and which pressures are negative, outward influences. Life is like a complicated equation in which you are the variable, being tossed back and forth across the sea of calculation.  With the proper skills and a spark of creativity, you can bring your equation into balance and find your true value. Did you know that infinity symbolizes (a) god? Mathematics is not all graphs and triangles, it is the quest for absolute truth.

This quest for meaning that you have embarked on, this is the duty of a good poet. To ask philosophical questions about our existence, to attempt to find value. Truth is, nobody knows what's going on when it comes to the meaning of our existence, people fight wars over their gods and everybody&#8217;s convinced that theirs is real. Nobody knows what happens when you die, that&#8217;s why it&#8217;s so fucking scary. 

Often the search for meaning will lead us to question our values, our nature, lead us to poor decisions, or cause us to lose perceived value of ourselves. But you are worth SOMETHING, I can't give you an exact amount, but you're worth just as much as any celebrity because money is a figment of imagination and we all go in the ground eventually. 

The trick is not to expedite death, but to use this life to develop grand ideas that can be left behind for generations to come, to provoke change against the cruelty of this world. People die, but ideas do not. Poetry can often serve to communicate or encapsulate abstract emotions or ideas that cannot be articulated in conversational speech. Use the poetry to explore your emotions, do not fear yourself. Before you act, ask your heart.

And go to class. Trust me. Your mind is your greatest asset.
