You must have got me confused. My ruffled blouse, colourful thighs, and slightly oversized jacket, made you believe I was a clown. Walked the tightrope falling each time making a fool of myself for only your amusement. Maybe my comedic disposition, or my clumpsy Duchenne smile? Otherwise, I don’t understand. Three freezing knocks At my door. There you are, cheering for yet another show, at the expense of my soul Wild and free once, now mushed, chain-bonded to yours For you, the show must go on. Flowers and applauses; Please don’t stop, Keep throwing at me coins of your affection Finally, I got your attention Black-mascara tears, My trembling reply: This ain’t no circus This is my heart.
