Duet He I thought of you the other day, But words that came I could not say. They rolled around inside my head. And then away like clouds they sped. So odd for me to be tongue-tied, When thinking of my muse: inspired My poetry and verse and song. Those thoughts of times that are long gone. I think of you, I dream of you How my heart breaks, I can’t be with you. When doubts arose, when fears ensued I close my eyes, I think of you. So often now my thoughts confused, When on your countenance I mused, What are these feelings long and deep? Disturbing me when ere I sleep? And then each morn when I awake, The physicality is there. Your memory a burning ache, As distance means we cannot share. I think of you, I dream of you How my heart breaks, I can’t be with you. When doubts arise, when fears ensue I close my eyes, I think of you. When slumbering: of you I dream, Remembering you with a smile. So real to me those feelings seem, My life is now a trial. They mix my feelings, heart is scarred. Why is it that it is so hard? The memories – I hold and guard, For you I keep in high regard. I think of you, I dream of you How my heart breaks, I can’t be with you. When doubts arise, when fears ensue I close my eyes, I think of you. Recalling well-warmed beds and baths, In other lives in other parts. But we were forced down different paths, And yet the memories fill our hearts. Enter she behind a thin curtain as in a dream She Our kisses moist and sweet and wet, Enriching as our bodies met. Entwined within each other’s arms, And savouring deeply conjoined charms. So what to do and what to say? How then to live each heart-wrenched day? Your body now I cannot own, So far apart our lives have grown! A longing that we cannot sate, Arousing dreadful, deep desire. Nor wanton, willing, consummate, To fan the flames of burning fire. I think of you, I dream of you How my heart breaks, I can’t be with you. When doubts arise, when fears ensue I close my eyes, I think of you. He For many years have I been here So how to meet this burning fear. For each year shall I shed a tear Each night that I must spend here. That would be thousands every day But men can cry – that is our way For tears our feelings do betray I shall not brush these tears away. Both No answer do we have to this, Those memories serene but strong. Delicious days we surely miss, So we put them in this song. Then the chorus again I think of you, I dream of you How my heart breaks, I can’t be with you. When doubts arose, when fears ensued I close my eyes, I think of you.
