Counties flashed red Black clouds appeared over purple hills Run Run to the truck Run up the hill to grandfather’s cellar Thunder rumbled the hills Lightning forked downward Rain patterned the dirt The day had gone dark A dark funnel coiled from the black clouds Dust and debris hovered toward the jagged edges of the storm Throwing dirt and trees A terrible beauty It slowly faded away Gone as surely as it had come Watching the clouds roll on through The air still and silent A town destroyed People dead My life, unscathed
