Flowers for Algernon
Wind tearing the roof Rain drumming on windowpanes A cold evening “Flowers for Algernon” The scent of fresh coffee
Written in Kyiv during the ongoing war. Tanka — a Japanese form, five lines. Some evenings, the wind tears at the roof, the rain drums on the windows, and the war is everywhere. And you make coffee. And you open a book about a man who loses everything he gained — intelligence, dignity, self. And somehow the scent of fresh coffee and the weight of that story together become a form of shelter.
