Notifications demand. Apps, messages, emails— flashing, buzzing, blinking from every device I own. Attention. Buzzing. Whirring. Then, hilariously, giving up when I try to use them. The Keurig won’t make my coffee because it has some water, but not a lot of water. Beeps and flashes with its final gasp of power— just enough to fail at making a call. Drops out again. Refuses to reconnect. As if my WiFi simply forgets itself. I think the robot revolution is not violent. A thousand pings. A million alerts. A quiet uprising of inconvenience. 38% complete…

My Coffee Maker Has a Firmware Update and I’m Late for WorK
