I Hold Her by the Hand
Winter has passed Spring has brought back the sunlight Summer is blazing In the hospital, my mother — I hold her by the hand
Written in Kyiv during the ongoing war. Tanka — a Japanese form, five lines. The seasons move forward regardless. Summer blazes outside the hospital window. Inside — time stops. Some moments exist outside of war, outside of history, outside of everything except the hand you are holding.
