Syntax controls and is controlled by a poem that works. In a way that is very good, I am often unsure what modifies what in your seemingly simple constructions, mrs. e. For example, is the last line (the one after your dash, Miss Dickinson), a stand-alone, simply accurately reporting on the situation of the amplified heartbeat? - Or is the sonnet itself a metaphorical heartbeat "amplified"? Due to the construction, it can be both, which adds depth to the poem. You do this kind of thing all the time; I really admire it and always look forward to an ephemera poem! (Grammar Police Alert: I swear that should be "I lay in bed...")
Incidentally, I had a heartbeat once, doctors say.

Actually, grammatically, "lie" would be correct: "I 'lie' in bed". 

"Lay" is a transitive verb requiring an object, to "lay, is "to place" something.

To "lie" is to recline. Or perhaps prevaricate :)

The poem is fantastic.
