Who knew a single phone call could heal years of damage. Between the background chatter and what you've said I hear another message - "You are safe with me." "I hear you" "You are okay" "I'm not mad at you" It's not your job to fix what others have broken, but regardless you softened a bruise you did not cause. You were not the one that put a pit in my stomach each time my phone rings, But you are the one who I hope is on the other end when it does. You were not the one who blew up my phone with dozens of calls but you are the one that always answers with kindness. You were not the one who made me terrified of calling first but you are the one that makes me happy I did. There is a long list of things you have not done and are not responsible for, yet you help me carry it all the same.

Softened A Bruise
You don't know how scared I am, yet, you help me without realizing it.
