One day, coming out of my apartment
I saw a turtle coming down the same path
He looked up as if he knew me.
I thought you were quite a ways from
your home, I shall take you back
where you belong.
So I picked him up and sat him in
my car on the front seat and off we went.
I drove about a mile down the road
until we came to the pond I felt he belonged
I got out of the car and walked him up close
and placed him at the waters edge and off he went
into the water, I watched as he went into the water
to make sure he was safe.
He came back out as I was leaving
I turned around to look once again
and he seemed to thank me.
I never once saw that Turtle or another again
But I felt certain that I made that turtle happy
by taking him home one fine summer day.

Just thought of this story this morning in my mid 60s but I was probably in my late 30's or early 40s when this happened.
