I cut out this morning, To float the river down. I know you all will miss me, But I am Richmond bound. Tell my girl in Roanoke, Not to weep for me. I'll be back to see her, After Autumn leaves. Tell dad that I'll miss him, And I won't get too loud. I didn't join the navy, But I'll still make him proud. Please tell our mother sorry, Her baby had to leave. But I will learn and do things, That she will not believe.
