Martin Luther King.
MLK.
Dr. King.
Martin.
So many names for one man.
But my name for him is Strong.
Not ****** strong.
Not fist-strong.
Patience-strong.
He walked to victory when others ran toward violence.
He talked with purpose when others shouted with hurt.
He dreamed when nobody else could see past the damage.
he saw a weapon to win a war not a gun that makes us run
he saw peace the greatest weapon of all Peace that had the
biggest reach to meet victory
And he didn’t spill blood to make history.
He used heart.
That alone is a work of art.
Today, people fight and the ground drinks red.
Back then, he looked around
and saw something dangerous.
People.
Not skin.
Not hair.
Not where they came from.
People with blood moving.
Brains thinking.
Hearts beating.
Legs ready to stand were others ran
He said,
“If you can’t fly, then run.
If you can’t run, then walk.
If you can’t walk, then crawl.
But whatever you do,
keep moving forward.”
So I walk
with strides of freedom and purpose
because that’s what you taught.
You said, I had a dream.
But in my eyes,
in my heart,
that wasn’t a dream.
That was a future.
my future
my future that still breathes
even though you’re gone.
my future that still listens
even when your voice is silent.
That kind of impact is rare.
Your skin was not your strength.
Your skin was not your weakness.
Your hair was not your strength.
Your hair was not your weakness.
Your strength
was a soul that fought with peace.
Your kindness had the longest reach
in places violence never could.
And if you had a weakness,
it was only yourself.
But you never let that stop the movement.
You were your greatest strength.
You were your biggest challenge.
And because of that,
we have classrooms with every color of teacher.
History books that tell the truth about freedom.
A world that knows what it costs to stand without a weapon.
Martin Luther King.
MLK.
Dr. King.
Martin.
I’ll preach this
while the birds sing their peaceful tune.
Thank you for having a dream.
Thank you for refusing to be a war.
Thank you for teaching me this:
A war isn’t about who wins.
It’s about what they win.
And Martin Luther King,
you won freedom.
