Heart

You said you wanted to know me.

To feel the very core of who I am.

Not the masked version,

Nor the polished stone or a silent ghost.

You wanted my heart.

I ripped it out, still beating.

I laid it warm and trembling in your palm.

An ensanguined, rhythmic sacrifice for love.

Take it.

Feel the burn of every hope it held for us.

And leave me here dying,

In my pool of blood.
