“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Nelson Mandela After five surreal decades of suffering, death and injustice South Africans knew Apartheid must go! With a stroke of his pen, F. W. De Klerk banished all racial statutes And ordered the present release of South Africa's most-known prisoner. Then on a sunlit September day in 1990, 27 long years after closing, the gates of Victor Verser prison re-opened and Nelson Mandela walked out a free man. A brief trip to Stockholm soon followed with De Klerk alongside to collect their prize. After South Africa's first free election, Mandela recited his nation's oath and claimed his place in the president's chair. Thanks to a visionary people on the mend, yesterday's impossible is today's noble truth
