i'll be just fine. just like my mother was and her mother was and the mothers before her my mother came here to give me a better life even if it meant staying with my father even if it meant raising us alone even if it meant walking on eggshells at home to keep us safe she sacrificed her livelihood her happiness her autonomy for me i think of everything my mother gave up am i worth all of this loss? i sit at 'home' the blue of my screen seeping into my bloodstream wondering how many sacrifices it takes before a better life begins

when will my life begin?
i'll be just fine. just like my mother was and her mother was and the mothers before her my mother came here to give me a better life even if it meant staying with my father even if it meant raising us alone even if it meant walking on eggshells at home to keep us safe she sacrificed her livelihood her happiness her autonomy for me i think of everything my mother gave up am i worth all of this loss? i sit at 'home' the blue of my screen seeping into my bloodstream wondering how many sacrifices it takes before a better life begins
