I just sit on my bed and stay
I don't realise it is the end of the day
When I think about it, sitting on my bed
I have only ever stayed
a whole lot of the year confined
inside the four corners of my bed
the kind of life I have led
There were so much more in the world
I could have done instead.

Each dawn's light, a new day's embrace,
Yet, all seems familiar, the same.
Yet, all has shifted, with subtle grace,
A flick of time, a new world's game.

A year transforms, a life's new refrain,
A translation of all we knew.
But change's embrace, we can't quite explain,
Not until time's tapestry weaves anew.

I realised.

there is simply nothing to be done
and nothing will be undone,
it will be just as they come
and as they come, they go
I would be part of their glow

I was stumped.

Unpolished Ink
Flattened sky
ironed by night
creased by morning
beyond it the curving collar of the hills
and crows, equidistant on a wooden fence
black shiny button birds
placed to complete the landscape
time to put on the day
roll myself in the fabric of normality
and gather it tight
shaping to fit my purpose

Would it be restful or like the way it has been
Like a swirl of ideas hanging
While my head touches the pillow
and my thoughts reaches the *****
and tumbling down I go
Revolve around the world
In a brief here, there,
my thought scraps are everywhere
Gather me in the backpack
Throw me back in bed like a sack
I need it to be restful,
All I get are eye circles
The classroom window had a clear view of the park
and when the July clouds painted the sky dark
the boy would start to cry!

Why, the teacher exclaimed, why these tears
it's all so pleasant, and there's nothing to fear
the rain is so welcome, it does only good
so why boy it finds you in such bitter mood!

Saying thus, he would walk back to his table
by the rain upon windowpane, I was inconsolable
brisker than rain were the tears in my eyes
in the thought there would be flood, water would rise
the walk back home would be a herculean feat
with the street flooded, hidden manholes beneath
I was haunted by the spectre of how the water rose
crawled past my chest, and reached up the nose
the swelling river would find me an easy victim
the teacher didn't know, I didn't know how to swim!

When the school bell finally rang, they ran joyous in the rain
splashing and soaking merrily, their way was heaven
only I stayed back, as if my feet had grown roots
late evening I reached home, in heavy sodden boots.
