I never knew the beauty that was inside you.
You talked as if you were sixty years old.
The wisdom you spoke, to me, was brand new.
When you wanted to be, you were incredibly bold.

I waited for your heart to be ready for so long.
It really wasn't a chore, but I was impatient and dumb.
I did many things right, but the majority wrong.
And ended up with a broken heart, empty, and numb.

I am sorry every day for all of the things that I've done.
You deserved so much better, but I ****** it all to hell.
I understand now why you felt the urge to run.
You just couldn't take my constant cracking of your shell.

I don't mean to beg, but please, dear, forgive me.
I can't keep living without knowing if you're alright.
I don't mean to beg, but please, dear, forgive me.
I can't keep living without knowing if I'm alright.

We sat together in the cold.
I tried to mine your heart of gold.
I chipped away for an hour or so.
And finally found a shimmering glow.

You leaned over and gave me the sign
that you've made it, finally, to the finish line.
Your love was mine and mine was yours.
We melted and formed the golden ore.

But something was missing. You turned away.
My heart started pounding, my mind astray.
You just couldn't do it. You left me alone.
Alone and cold; just a stepping stone.

Petrified and dead. No one around.
I sat there mute, not a single sound.
One single tear falls down my cheek.
Never have I felt so feeble and meek.

Recover from the loss? It's possible now.
My heart was broken, but mended somehow.
You filled my life with pleasure and pain.
But I'll always love you. No pain, no gain.

Look inside.
See what's going on
in your eyes.
Your staring gaze
is agony in disguise.

Under the blue, the white, and the black.
You love them all, but they don't love you back.
They've got everything that you lack.
Your heart just breaks before the attack.

Take it slow.
There's really nothing that I
need to know.
Your empty eyes
tell me no, to go.

Lay there and pretend that it's alright.
Keep quiet, kind, and stay in at night.
Watch your idols and worship their might.
But the day I met you, I loved at first sight.

You are them.
I am you.
We'll never understand
what to do.
They are you.
You are me.
We are one in the same,
but we will never be.

You found me a broken man in the ditch of life
You knew of me, knew my past, knew the scars of his knife.
They still bled as you tried to bandage the wounds.
You told me that it would all be over soon.

At night, under the stars and moon we’d usually meet
The water would sparkle as the grass tickled our feet.
Tell me more stories, more lies, more truths
Because I can’t get enough; your mind I must consume.

But can you mend this heart and slay the dragons of my past?
Can you tell me that this time my happiness will last?
Can you promise me the things that I hold so dear
Mistrust, denial, anger and fear.

Can you fix my mind and finally make it right?
Can you turn the moon into the sun and shine it bright?
What kind of miracle powers do you possess?
Because to be honest, my dear, I’m a ******* mess.

I don’t know what this is, this wall between you and me.
Is it the past, present, future? Maybe in time we’ll see.
I don’t know what this is, what we have right now.
But I know that it’s beautiful and heartbreaking somehow.

The bittersweet words that you tell me make me grin
Because I know that slowly, you’re starting to let me in.
I don’t expect much. This you need to know
Because I don’t have much love left in me that is able to grow.

So tell me your lies, denials, anger, and fear
I will stand here more than willing to hear
The sad stories, mumblings, and dramatic prose.
The ramblings, murmuring, rumors, highs and lows.
