last winter
at a downtown coffee shop
I sat on the bar stool near the window

I watched the people on the sidewalk
pulling their coats and scarves around their necks
keeping the wind out

I sipped a peppermint tea, a temporary comfort,
and watched
as they entered their apartment towers
moments later, high up, a window would light up with a yellow glow

a far away
warm, bright, home

and I’m looking at them, and I know, that I should go on
to wherever it is that hearts go on to
that it’s not doing me any good to sit here
wishing for a brightness of my own

but,

what’s hope for if not this?
I’m not sorry
I can’t be sorry
I won’t be sorry
that I’m going to stay awhile
looking at the lights in the windows
of everyone else’s home

These photos are a gateway to my memories;
They're the only remnants of things I no longer see:
The twinkling stars at the peak of twilight;
The terrifying tales around a campfire so bright,
The heart melting gaze of my new born brother,
The crash of waves as I build a sand castle with my mother.
And although they are torn and hard to see,
These photos are a gateway to my memories.

My heart would  have me stay
When my flesh would bid me go.
True Love demands my sacrifice
For the good of the One I love,
Though lust would tell me no,
I choose to LOVE.
For all that is in the world--the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not from the Father but from the world. I John 2:16

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. I Corinthians 13:13
I waited for an elevator
It was an exceptionally long pause,
And there was a group of three arguing
Over the meaning of a clause.

I knew the answer to their query,
But questioned if I should reply.
Social stigmas can be strange
So I decided to be shy.

They searched their minds,
They racked their brains,
And I just stood there -
The answer boiling on my tongue.

My elevator arrived just then,
And I reluctantly stepped inside.
The doors closed slowly, slowly,
And I heard their voices die...

...So it is with my faith.
Many people are searching
And I have the answer,
But I am too afraid to speak.

So I step inside an elevator,
And lift myself above their problems
Pridefully rejecting the searching
Of those who need an answer.
I reflect upon the Father's love -
monoliths in Yosemite.
The eagle screeches far above
a song, "Your love's extremity".

A handful of berries,
A heart full of joy,
These are the moments,
In the summer to enjoy.

The lightness of Your body,
Your eyes have a gleam,
Living is so effortless
It nowadays seems.

Bathing in the sunrays,
Mind is at ease,
These are the days,
You should undoubtedly seize.

The smell of coffee in the morning
Reminds me of those with You.
Breakfast in bed,
Under the blankets until noon.

There was no haste
To some place else,
In each others arms,
Savouring the sweet embrace.

The nights were bright,
Sky overflowing with stars,
On the ground we lay,
Searching for the North star and Mars.

Picking out flowers from the meadow,
Under the vast blue yonder,
Making flower crowns together,
Filling each other with laughter and wonder.

Attempting to unravel the life's mysteries,
To untangle all the knots and twists,
Struggling to give answers to all the questions,
Still staying ecstatic to be alive and coexist.

The sky above us is ablaze,
You can almost feel the heat
From the colors of dark orange and red.
Your presence is putting me in a daze,
And up me You lift,
With all that's being said.
The sea has quieted down,
And the wind is noiselessly
Swishing through the straws, the sand, my humid hair.
Looking deep in Your eyes I know
I can say those three words finally,
I am certain I am there.
You don't need to sneeze rubies and diamonds
You don't need to cough out pearls
Nor have the golden touch of King Midas
To be able to spin my world

No need to vacation in China
To let a few tigers loose
Or fly in on a magic bus
For me to notice you

You don't need to be the president
Or some international spy
On me all your money need not be spent
For me to want you in my life

You don't have to hold onto your breath
And turn the deepest shade of blue
Or at my dumb jokes laugh and laugh
For me to want to love you

For the common cold you don't need to find the cure
Or the perfect mouse trap
You don't need to bring peace to this world
For me to need to hold your hand

All you need to be is yourself
And to that self hold true
Because all I need above all else
Is to be madly in love with you
For my beautiful wife who has put up with me for 30 years this month.
