Tip-toeing around to the corner, my eyes peer down the hall.
Darkness streams in from the windows, creeping up to cracks in the doors-
Pushing back against light as it fights to escape.
Each taxing breath, like a vacuum bidding to envelop change left on a bedroom floor.

One step away from safety, and another and another.
My hands shake, as if the branches of the trees’ lashing against the house.
The descent begins, again in to the cavernous abyss.
Perhaps tonight Nyx’s watchful eye will grant me protection.

As my foot hits the bottom step, I hear a ghastly cry from behind me:
“Son, back to bed!”

Redemption
MG Nov 2012
i thought i'd find it in a new town
with different faces and places and sights all around

a fresh start, life anew, a break from the past
no routine or rut or part in which i'm cast

not an earth shattering premise, i'm willing to admit
but something had to change, to give, i just had to quit

quit being so selfless, as arrogant as that may sounds
my head was in the sky but my feet were held to the ground

when is it my time, my turn, i asked myself
when do i get to reap the crops of seeds i had dealt

and then i realized, with no fanfare, my new role
for in one's life there are times where he alone can save his soul.

Maps
MG Oct 2012
I hate maps because they don't work
Because a map is supposed to help you get to where you want to be
I put one finger where you are and another where I am
Only inches between us
Close enough to touch you, to kiss you, to run my fingers through your hair
But the key to reading maps is the key to reading maps.
And all of a sudden, we're not so near.

Skillet on the stove
Such a temptation
Maybe I won't get burned
Maybe I'll be the lucky one

Mona Lisa
MG Oct 2012
You've got that Mona Lisa smile
You know what you've got
You know who you are
You know something no one else knows.

I want to find out.

Perfection
MG Oct 2012
"I just don't think we're 150 percent perfect for each other" you said.

You didn't seem to think that when we were best friends.
You didn't seem to think that when we were in bed.
You didn't seem to think that when we were in love.

You didn't seem to mind when you told me you loved me.
You didn't seem to mind when you met my family.
You didn't seem to mind when you said it could be forever.

Did it ever cross your mind what I gave up for this?
All gone, my best friend, my lover, my passionate bliss.

And here I sit in the world, half-way around, with all the pieces of perfection you threw to the ground.
