I am the words you whisper when you're whimpering in your sleep,
I am your dreams that you only wish you could keep.
I'm the first thought running straight through your head,
I'm the last thought your mind loses as you slip into bed.
I hope you think of me as something more than just an idea,
I hope I'm more to you than just a last-minute plan,
I hope your hopes are equally as real,
I hope you know you're all that I am.

You are my dreamcatcher, when nightmares are lurking
You're my muse when my mind isn't working.
You give me strength when I am feeling so weak,
You are what lifts me back onto my feet.

And I hope you know I'm in so deep,
I hope you know you've pulled me out of this depression
I've fallen so low,
But you are my medicine.

You're my simile, I'm just a metaphor
A simple comparison to the likelihood of life.
I'm the ocean's deep, you're the open door
Leading the way to a perfect life.

And I hope you see how badly I'm bruised
I hope you know that I'm empty and used.
But you filled me up again,
I hope you know, you are all that I am.

Silence –
The loudest sound at night
When cars go by
And babies cry,
Silence screams at me

And your five o’clock shadow against my face
It makes me feel like I’m in the safest place
Your breath against my neck
So calm, I have to check
for you…

Whispers –
The loudest voice anyone speaks
When you reach those peaks
And someone is yours to keep
Whispers whisk on by

And my dreams are only of you
I could only hope you dream of me, too
So hold on tight
I might be here all night
with you…

Love –
The loudest feeling out there
When war is in the air
And death hangs near
I still love you…

Time stands still in this room
As the sounds of spring bloom
outside these walls
And your voice is all I crave

But I'll let the music fill the silence instead
Since your voice is always in my head
Isn't it poetic
And I'm crazy
I'm losing it to your beauty

Don't let me slip away
Don't forget my laugh
Even though I hate it, I see how your eyes light up
when you hear that sound escape my lips
Echoing behind my teeth, yet I crave your tongue
between my cheeks

Endless thoughts while time is stopped
And your beauty personifies me
Fills me completely
with bliss, yet also the desire to always be something
better
And there's something poetic, isn't there,
to falling asleep in your arms
With the dream of reality growing more profound and vivid
Yes, poetic, it is, to slip between your sheets
And between your teeth
As I dream about love
And the cursive of my brain spills onto this page
As though the only thing moving forward is this ink
While we are frozen in perfection

As my daydreams take me to the clouds
Your nightmares keep you grounded
So let's meet in the middle
Because love is so belittling

How humble are we to expect nothing more than
to one day just BE
alive as we can be
Time will stand still until that day comes
And your beauty will be admired more with
each passing night
And so, until then,
goodnight.

Can't I just keep pretending
Like you are only *sleeping?
Melanie Rose Mar 2014
I could feel so insecure
So purely unsure
Of what I am in this world
Especially, what I am to you

But then you fall asleep
And then I fall in love
with you all over again
I adore the way you snore
It reminds me that you're as human as I am

So when I feel inferior and alone
I remember your normalness
(and the beauty within it)
Under all of your extravagancies
I remember my quirkiness
Under all of my insecurities

I remember your whispers
Over my heartfelt tears that fell so endlessly
Until you reminded me that you love me
and always will, unconditionally

So, I love the way you think
And I love the way you sleep
And I love you who are
And I love that you love me

Because it reminds me that you're only as human as me
And that my normalcy doesn't scare you away
Because our love is extraordinary.

Broken like the shadows dancing on my walls
Is the darkness in my heart, that of which you take hold
And with mending hands, a touch so gentle
The demons so softly begin to fade away

Lightness fills the spaces between the dancers within my soul
And you spin me in an elegant waltz that brightens the room
Brighter than any star that has ever shone over the empty galaxy
A touch so promising
that I'd dare never to fade away
As our dance turns into an entangled grasp
Tender as the wind kissing my cheek are your fingers entwined in my hair
Fierce as the storm raging outside on this winter night is the tug you give when I gasp for air

And falling never felt so auspicious
As any truth I've ever heard
But I know your words ring true
As "I Love You"'s are whispered into my mind
and felt within
my bones
