I walk through the halls
Unsteady, unsafe
But if I can't see you, you can't see me.
I see pointing, hear laughs
But I look away
Because if I can't see you, you can't see me.
I close my eyes and dream
To block out the noise
If I can't see you, you can't see me.
I try to smile, fit in
But you give me no choice
So if I can't see you, you can't see me.
I find my palms moist
I'm fixing my clothes, smoothing my hair
If I can't see you, you can't see me.
It's just too much!
The giggles, the whispers, the stares
And suddenly my flaws are all I can see.
Going into my first year of high school, I was anxious and fearful. I would constantly imagine myself being victim to bullying. Although this did not happen, I see myself manipulating the actions of others in my head to make it seem as though I am being hurt. This poem is what my mind was nervous of during the lonely summer nights that came before school began. I hope you enjoy my first poem on this page!
