in my dreams
there is a gigantic tree outside my window
with branches that sprawl
making the sky look cracked
giving the appearance of the cosmos
a new perspective.

in my dreams
i climb the tree
to see the world
to touch the stars
to observe life from
a new perspective.

in my dreams
i climb the tree
to escape the
harshness of reality
because this is better; it’s
a new perspective.

in my dreams
i climb the tree
to escape the
hopelessness and helplessness
of reality; to obtain
a new perspective.

in my dreams
i climb the tree
to find happiness;
enough for the
world to watch
a new perspective.

i wake up
from my dreams
because in order
to make positive change
you have to have
a new perspective.

the sun rises as i look at you
fast asleep
i wonder how something so beautiful
can be so toxic.

the sun rises as i look at you
running like your life depends on it
i wonder how something so beautiful
can be so toxic.

the sun rises as i look at you
driving down the highway
i wonder how something so beautiful
can be so toxic.

the sun sets as i leave you
smirking at me
i wonder how something so toxic
can ever be considered beautiful.

running,
running,
running.
from what,
i'm not sure.
my future?
my past?
my thoughts?
my depression and anxiety?
you?
i know running
won't help me forget
but maybe
just
maybe
i can outrun
my demons
for
another day.
