Chipped and Empty
Kate Apr 2017
I see myself as damaged. How ever could I not?
My innocence has chipped away, it's left my heart to rot.

The flakes of who you saw in me no longer hold on tight.
They run around inside my head, racing through the night.

A cactus, I have always been, my spines kept pain away.
But loneliness and fear and doubt, still on my heart, they lay.

The weeds of friendship, love, and joy I do not understand.
My years of youth began to drift like wind over the sand.

Kate Mar 2015
She just wants to be left alone.
He just wants her.

She is fighting a war against herself.
He tries fighting her battles.

The emotions of their last kiss glow in the embers of her past love.
He will soon be burned.

Spring and Sorrow
Kate Mar 2015
Her eyes were full of spring and sorrow.
When you look in them, you melt.
She was looking past tomorrow,
and the feelings that she felt.

Her head was full of hope and wonder.
This was early in her days.
All her efforts led to plunder.
Failure left her in a maze.

Her heart was full of every feeling.
All of this you could not see.
He just sent her whole life reeling.
It was never meant to be.

Forsaken Forest
Kate Mar 2015
In the woods where darkness lies,
Hunger waits while daylight dies.

Animals come right out to feed.
With claws of pain and eyes of greed.

Strength and might keep one step back,
Courage waits for the attack.

Mist creeps in and brings the cold.
Emotion stays within it's fold.

Blindness, numbness, dropped shoulders squared,
Vulnerable, and feelings bared.

The wolves in your heart will eat away at you until all that's left is an empty shell.

Exhaustion
Kate Mar 2014
It's the hunger that seeps into the mind.
It affects all people.
It won't stop until it's satisfied,
Until you give in.

It's the calmness of the pond.
There are no tides, no waves.
Many things lurk hidden beneath.
The stillness is broken with the slightest movement.

It's the distractions at the cinema.
The white noise disrupts.
The extra sound drowns out.
Electronic lights draw attention.
Words and ideas are missed.

It's the only thing you don't want.
It's the only thing you have.

Bouquet of Broken Hearts
Kate Mar 2014
Your heart is a vase; innocence, the flower.
Emotions are water, more filled each hour.

Eventually, it overflows, spilling out the top.
The flower drowns, and slowly rots, if it doesn't stop.

But if the heart gets broken, damage cannot be undone.
Emotions spilled, innocence lost, drying in the sun.

Mend the vase, save the flower, refill the water spilled.
This happens every time a person's dream is killed.

You can still see the cracks of the heart through the tape.

If Only
Kate Mar 2014
Think about this truth that I've never said before:
Every day I spend with you will leave me wanting more.

Think about this truth that I'm too afraid to say:
If you were to ask me surely with you I would stay.

Think about this truth that I'm too afraid to know:
If you knew that I love you, you would want to go.

Think about this truth that I'll never say again:
If this does not end well, I'm glad you were my friend.

Patience
Kate Feb 2014
I wait by the road for your return,
for all that's left is pain.
By the time that you get back,
my tries will be in vain.

The love I gave you now is lost,
the time I spent, a waste.
The words you said at first were sweet,
but leave a bitter taste.

I'll wait by the road for your return,
but time will surely tell.
Think back to the day when we first met,
when your heart for me fell.

Torn Open
Kate Feb 2014
Inner demons break the seal,
secrets rip their seams.
What's hidden claws a way outside.
They infiltrate your dreams.

Try. Get them back, futilely, once they start adrift.
The once same world of light and dark now has a wider rift.

The bridge back home is treacherous.
Good luck, no turning back.
I just hope the destination's not the thing you lack.
Feedback? And I'd like ideas for a title.
