Uninvited
Kerilynn May 2013
Darkness visits often
uninvited but not
unwelcome

arriving under midday sun
or moonless night

Darkness invades
forging a path resolute
guiding tears to the page
                                 secrets unveiled

Darkness lingers
cloaking vulnerability
seducing clandestine thoughts
                                  taboo love affair

Darkness retreats
relinquishing possession
revealing resplendent spirit
                                  spontaneous dawn

Reflection
Kerilynn May 2013
without warning-
a sound sparks
an errant memory
which leaves me
             suddenly
     off
                               balance
a moment of courage
replaced
by an hour of doubt

confidence
turns
skeptical

reasoning
becomes
questioning
with no answer
to assuage
increasing unease

I step to the mirror
desperately searching for recognition
in the face looking back

shapes transform as they come into focus

insecurities surface

leaving me to drown...
                                in a pool of reflection...

Adrift - (Pantoum)
Kerilynn May 2013
Where shallows rest near waters deep
a tranquil breath upon a sea
sings lullabies as my heart sleeps
adrift in peaceful reverie

A tranquil breath upon a sea
still seeking solace in your kiss
adrift in peaceful reverie
I'll wake to find my love remiss

Still seeking solace in your kiss
these restless waters beckon me
I'll wake to find my love remiss
pursuing what could never be

These restless waters beckon me
a soft caress upon a breeze
pursuing what could never be
I drift in shadowed memories

A soft caress upon a breeze
sings lullabies as my heart sleeps
I drift in shadowed memories
where shallows rest near waters deep
This poem is a Pantoum - there is a strict format of repeated refrains and rhyme pattern

Paradox
Kerilynn May 2013
none so powerful
have I received
as this gift
of dancing ink

what wounds have healed

what tears have dried

as words carry
my heart's pain
to the page
where it remains
imprisoned

each night I stare
into darkness
afraid to close my eyes
should morning reveal
my pen
depleted...

                                                          none so powerful
                                                          have I received
                                                          as this curse
                                                          of restless ink

                                                          what wounds renewed

                                                          what tears spill fresh

                                                          as words
                                                          fill my heart
                                                          with pain
                                                          immortalized
                                                          on the page

                                                          each night I stare
                                                          into darkness
                                                          afraid to close my eyes
                                                          should morning reveal
                                                          my pen
                                                          refilled...
