The truth is…
              the real truth…?
                             Do people do that?

How’s my new dress?
                                             It makes you look fat.

Like my new do?
I paid quite a lot
                                             You got ripped off, dear,
                                               You might even sue.

How are you today?
Just a quick answer please
I don’t have the time
To hear of your bad knees.
                                              I’m doing fine, knowing
                                               You don’t want to hear
                                               My problems and stresses
                                               I won’t bend your ear.

A “white lie” is easier
Makes conversation go fast
Then again, you just never know
When you might hear the real truth
It could be quite a blow.
So beware

the truth is…

If you don’t want the real truth?
Perhaps you shouldn’t ask.
I don't usually write silly poems, but at a poetry gathering the challenge was to write a poem beginning with "the truth is" and the truth is I could not come up with anything serious that didn't also sound sappy, so I went for silly!

They say
I'm so passionate
with my words,
truth is
poetry is just something
that keeps me
alive.

Mortality

My mind is split between
A broken body or a
Good nights sleep...
A few more drinks
Or dimes on my check
Hickeys on my neck
Or ink on the paper
Cutting down trees, at least,
Puts money in the bank
I've got a sinking feeling, that
Sand's sliding beneath my feet
The reapers shadow cast
Upon the hour glass, so deceiving...
Had me believing that
I could escape mortality.

Laying in a field of yellow
I saw you kiss the sun
When you thought I wasn't looking, butterflies of dare descended from your lips
Falling into your light, we danced in chance
Nor did we stop or think or care as all and all fully flowed
No time no space but music that our dance created
It had no sound but we felt its every joy
The moon the sun Jimi’s sky
The song was all and all was song
It was all too much but not enough but this, just the first movement.
Awake in the crescent of our intertwined flesh
Daisies caught between your toes
My soul craving what could be
The moment beckons for another spin around the shadows
Hope for ever new never ending tomorrows
All the while,
Big orange sun
Overpowering the dim ‘scape
while the waning lacey moon
     descends
        quietly
            down
the other side of the sky
A collaboration with Jim Musics
Thank you, Jim!
