Sitting in my past
Katherine Brooks Oct 2023
a young girl longs for the flames of her soul
burning and yearning to touch

Lake Heartwell
Katherine Brooks Aug 2020
Missed the long time
Felt the wind blow

  Living and saddle campgrounds
Different from the rest

                       for casting right ..

A lake simple enough for my heart.

Fabrics of life
Katherine Brooks Aug 2020
The woven way a story is told
A calm before the storm
Or a bright light on a Warm walk, little is known to rush forlorn
Evening breaks the width of a stick

But a flow of a shirt or hem or line
Brings forth the underwing of a blossoms site, more than what the iris can hold

But little to what the eye can see
Nuisance in delight and for longing in the pattern of the way it falls or rests in the same instance as the other
Never too floral or too faint

But in the right substance more than you know
Ever bending just in time to show what you care for and what you don’t fully see

Whatever is most felt by the hand or the cheek and less than what a mind can read
For the feeling of it is what matters
, to the moss on the ground

Points in Time
Katherine Brooks Aug 2020
When you're lying down to try to rest
When the world seems the same but strange
It goes in circles for a time
When the most had waves of stress
Less of fire or fury

Winds of the crickets resound the laughter but quiet the heart to a way of life that feels grander than the normal strife

Quickly we go over to a different side
Quietly we feel the same
Lively we stand for strength and
Lonely we rest for ease.

Mushrooms in the Yard

I see them topped off
Around the ring
A group of them
Just sitting in

The magic of the mushroom thing.

New Place
Katherine Brooks Aug 2020
it looks as though a new home will be home
as a dandelion changes so does the seasons

leaving my families abode
may have the real reason

to stay in a place that is welcome.

Nation
Katherine Brooks Jun 2020
We weren't born from
an estranged time
we were born with
our hearts and our pride
we do not stuff out flames
but rise for protection
we were not mind washed
in school but taught to listen
we do not use for our
own understanding but for humane

We are more than lines
and borders or boundaries, connected
we are united as a cause
to stay together in peace
we are Georgia
we are hope
we are home.

sound simple and plain

but the very happening
of being lifted

gives us hope.

Owl Stance
Katherine Brooks Jun 2020
Where in the world
have the owls flown off to
not a single one in view

Evidence of a strange encounter
in light of another side
live on for it, forward

Soap and dip in tune
Love and laughter needed
for a simpler light's hue
Katherine Brooks Jun 2020
Little lost things
in a sea of hope
staying for scalings
of the modern write

Under the tables
and in between the light
a house is in comfort
for tomorrow's light

Crisp summer dusk
with names unturned
living in dust
for life's return
'Love lost but hope sprung'

Humidity
Katherine Brooks Jun 2020
The sourness hasn't set in
I hope it never does
Wanna keep it light
for the summer isn't old

Sight for the reel
Numbers for the time
Letters for our hero's
and life for the time

Happiness lasts in bursts of motif
Feelings stay in the month of May
June starts the love of a journey
Muse is right to the loud quietness of the season
It's hot and humid

Nola, Please
Katherine Brooks Jun 2020
We just wanna stay where we are
normally functioning
unwistfully listening
Level willed to the earth

Ladders incompletely climbing
in front of stairs that seem
impossible to walk on, sometimes
This tundras just in our minds

We seal the deal
underneath wandering times
not invoking questioning ones
Simply staying in a room

In a group homeliness is tired to find
work in short hours of the day
in the long late ones of the night
we'll stay crisp in the trying times

underneath the lines that others
pronounce towards each other
we do not want to bander
instead we try to work together

On coure;

water i s'pose
Katherine Brooks Jun 2020
In the early morning
in the late brisk day
under asterisk stars

and the substance of may
we gather together
for neighborly hope

in spite of things
lost and forgone
not one but three in

solemn persistance
for the birds can
hear our minds rhetoric
the warm days need cool water for friends

Meetings
Katherine Brooks Dec 2019
I go to some meetings
they are meant to help

but all I feel like is a scope
of a presence coming through

a following of all the lives
that people live to them selves

coming out in the open
weighing down everyone's own individual loan

Family
Katherine Brooks Dec 2019
You told me a lie
that I used to live by
now I know the truth
and there's no rock to steady
me, in my trembling boots

I do not know my mother
I do not know my father
how do I find the strength
to stop my shaking breath

Do I live a lie
or be a sacrifice?
I haven't confronted my family since I found out I was adopted. They never told me. And they don't know I know. I'm finding it hard to keep a clear mind.

Under Water
Katherine Brooks Dec 2019
I feel like I am drowning
going deeper and deeper
no oxygen to save me
just the smoke at the end

I feel like drowning
there's no light for me now
only the shallows
where the predators prowl

I am drowning
it's my last attempt to swim
but my arms are tired
and someone stole my fin

Stranger than a Stranger
Katherine Brooks Oct 2019
I've been living with you my whole life
A silent killer
A nameless lore
You seem to know me,
but I ignore.

It's your creeping way
A shadow I can not shake
Supposed to keep the demons at bay,
instead you invite them in and wait.

I weep with out reason
Rhyming with the seasons
On and on and on
depression, you heathen.
Feeling a little lower than usual these days.

Strangled
Katherine Brooks Oct 2019
Thin band wrapping around your wrist
Daring to cut off the circulation
Its embodiment feels safe and bliss
Never wanting to part from combination

Have not dared to find the knife
That knows my final intention
I could never truly be yours
With my lonely condition

The Thing You Love Most
Katherine Brooks Oct 2019
A mystery
Never distinct
Maybe it's history
Or a memory, think

Can it be love?
The unruly kind
That leaves your heart
Not knowing what is right

Something hard and hurtful
To balance it's purest form?
Unfair and lustful
It leaves your innocence torn.

Ghost Mornings
Katherine Brooks Oct 2019
Maybe today will be better
maybe, those don't define your every move, you believed.

You wake in the hours before light
remembering a ghost
from a dream.

You wake up in spite
beside kryptonite
"nothing is as it seems".

For You
Katherine Brooks Oct 2019
What do the inklings mean?

The small whispers:
That stay in the air,
Move with the breeze.

Where do they come from?
What do they mean?

I fell, we see, I'm for you.
What do they mean?

The small inklings...
I go to this support group, I think it helps. It shows me that there are others who  think the same way I do and that have the same thought processes. Don't feel so  alone.

Here and Now
Katherine Brooks Jul 2019
In now we seek
a loving sound
to breathe in
the louder crowd

Careful step
worthy hound
universal love
for gone, is too proud

A small bundle
do not prowl
for you shall mark
a beautiful scowl

In madness seems
a cruel tone
so we say
you're sweet and cold

Waterfalls Trail
Katherine Brooks Mar 2019
You must climb down
to really see the beauty
of the hidden wonder

in that town
just a kiss
from the canyon

holds the most majestic
Aqua-filled fall
of streaming water

you shrink when you see it
incapable, small
to the grandiosity

a place where water flows
a place so normal
and yet begs to not be seen

In the bottom of the canyon
lies a dream of an aquamarine

the lost love of the sea.

Addicted to Words
Katherine Brooks Jan 2019
I want to be moved
Day to day
To revel
To  weep
Even in strangers conceit

But why can’t the thing that moves me just be my own two feet?
Katherine Brooks Jan 2019
do not answer it.
Hide in a corner
until it peeks through the window
Facing its true face
unknowing and searching
With an honest pace
you’ll find that destiny
might be a fake

Katherine Brooks Jan 2019
You showed me there was more than the labyrinth
more than the cold still waters,
           the ripples

In a love so intense,
   I saw your past self

and who you could be

but why could I see this in you and not see it in me?

Once upon a Time
Katherine Brooks Sep 2017
Was a hard time in a teenage girls life unrequited love, attempted suicide and her mind out of line

It was a cold winter morning and she was shaking again
the sun lit up the baseball field like an angel playing again

Smoke surrounded me like a cloud of exhaust
I was exhausted of feeling this way
I wanted out of my own mind, out of this thing called life

Lost and Found
Katherine Brooks Sep 2017
You found me
waking up from a dream
I found you
in this reality

See you didn't just come into my life
At a place where I wasn't ready
You didn't catch me off balance
We found each other and we keep it steady
You say to me
Life's too short to question those beside you
And I thank you
For teaching me how to live too

You found me
searching for life
I found you
looking into my eyes

Days of our Lives
Katherine Brooks Sep 2017
Go on one by one
The search for purpose
Can be hard, oh lord
It feels like a curse
Sometimes.

But then, we feel lighter
The worry, stress
Goes away and it's brighter
All of it gets less
Sometimes.
