The greater of two evils

Evergreen Forests
GreenTrees Dec 2019
I called her Autumn only to realize years later that it meant from the beginning I knew she was going to leave...

And when those leaves fall sweetly to the ground each year

the fallen leaves like small letters goodbye to a season lost.

I think to myself the stars shine a little brighter in autumn.

The wisdom of failure
GreenTrees Dec 2019
If there is more wisdom in failure than in success, then I am wise beyond my years. The gap between you and success is equal to the sum of your fears.

The measure of true friendship is that your friendship no longer requires measure.

The beauty of life is boundless. It is only limited by our ability to see it and our willingness to create it.

Arguments only prove that in time
that whatever it was, it was not worth arguing over.

A hidden treasure...

Outside my window

I hear the world beginning to stir and

the faint whispers of a world gone mad.

I imagine a black hole being split in two and in the middle of that  I am protected.  All things being filtered out.

This place I want to call home.

The best part of you  is You.

Your ability to take sadness and pain

and mold it into growth and beauty

To create peace and desolation in the embrace of the life storm.

To sit in emptiness when there is chaos all around you.

I am the night thief... stealing hours from the normal day to

to exist in silence and think.

Under the rug
GreenTrees Jan 2019
Every year I get excited to tell you I love you in some special way.

We go to the place we met.

A place to remember and never forget.

To you it was just another day with a fancy title.

Another day filled with regret.

Another day of sadness like a secret I kept.

You hide me from your life and friends.

Under the rug I have been swept.

You keep me on the sidelines off to the left.

Man is discontent.

Man is  ****.

Man is malevolent.

Man is ******.

Man is death.

Man is fear.

Man is pain.

Man is wrath.

What kind of Man do you want be as asked God?

The man answered. I do not want to be a man.

I want to be a God.

God answered.

No! You are not a man, nor a god.

You must learn to be a Man.

95 Percent Perfect...
GreenTrees Jul 2018
That's how she described me, to me.

You are 95 percent perfect.

Loving and kind.

Generous and attentive.

I am always on your mind.

Artistic and hard to find.

Hard working and Inventive.

Your love making is sublime.

But the church remained quiet, no wedding bells to chime.

And now I think the only thing left of me, that is me, raw and un-refined?

Can be summed up in the most extraordinary Five.

Sipping a cold beer by the river's edge.

Small boats passing nearby.

Divers hanging by the sun beaten ledge.

Kids laughing being kids.

The beauty of life reflecting in the rippled waters.

And in the cool shade of the trees

I look to her and we smile

and then we say goodbye.

The river's end
GreenTrees May 2018
The day was like water under the bridge.

Drifting down a lazy river.

Mossy trees create a mottled canopy of shade over hanging the river.

Beams of light sift through the heavy sullen river air.

I peer up into the arches of the rusting and aging bridge.

Pausing a moment to capture and bask in the cool shade.

Feet hanging into the cool rivers pull down stream.

I let my self slowly drift into my thoughts of abandon.

And soon the bridge is a mere speck in the distance.

And in that moment of quiet abandon, I thought no more of the river's end.

I had become water under the bridge.

Languid afternoon

Holding back the quiet.

Fending off the empty.

Ultra-void to tempt me.

Words spilled on the table and left their mark.

I ate the ashes and with a blackened mouth, I spoke the truth.

Kisses By the Sea
GreenTrees Aug 2017
The ocean air rushed over us

as linen curtains swayed in the afternoon light.

A bronze outline against the cool shades of summer bedding

The taste of ocean air lingers on wine stained lips.

Sweet desserts to welcome the afternoon day dreams.

The taste of salty caramel still on my tongue.

Tales of voyage in leather bound books that line the walls

I hear the ocean and I can feel my lover's call

On moonlit nights by the shore I feel her arms around me

and as the sea pulls away under the sleepy gaze of the moon

I would lay beside you and dream of your kisses by the sea...

A toast to lost love
GreenTrees Aug 2017
Throw your stones into the sea
Casting away your fears and doubts merrily

Let the sky be your canvas of tranquility
While your spirit flies with the grace of divinity

Pile up your cares and worries and let them crash to the floor
Bury your fears and speak of them never more

Scale the insurmountable with just your thoughts
Toss away your coffers of regret, when you spend time, what is it that you 've  bought?

Pat away your tears and turn them into poetry
Let down your hair and fill your lungs with new life

Kiss your passion and hug your soul
Tread not the same place twice

Step outside and lift your gaze
Let love carry you into the golden days

Toil no more over broken glass
Fill your cup, not to be your last

Oil soaked rail road ties

Worn leather and broken tiles

White oak barrels and whiskey washed lies

Sweat soaked bandannas  and bending rivers o' er miles

Through mountain passes

treading beside bob-wire fences fallen in the dry grasses

Dusty boots and cobbled stone

White washed fences and white washed bones

An old cemetery with names long forgotten

Reminders from not so long ago

There under blood soaked skies lays my body lifeless by the

Oil soaked rail road ties

Can't Say no to u
GreenTrees Jun 2017
I have no excuses for all of my abuses

I'm afraid to get close to you

Cuz' I can't say no to you.

We have been apart for so long

Hiding feelings so strong

Every time you get close, I push you away

Cuz' I know I'd fall in love with you again

Even if it was just for one day

I am so tempted but then I retreat

But missing you is no easy feat

Think of you often as I like to do

Wishing and wishing for just one day with you

So one day I hope you ask

Cuz'  I can't say no to you...

Dry Rot
GreenTrees May 2017
In the dry cracked walls
Behind the dry rot
Below the slithering bellies

Where the earth turns death into life.

Soothed by the warmth of decay.

Tendrils of sorrow reaching deeper

Into that place in side my soul that has died

Where I silently scream breathlessly.

Time has stopped and the hands of time cover her face
Timidly peering out,
To one day see the sun again

Love is a Landscape
GreenTrees May 2015
Love with its picturesque mountain peaks
one finds oneself opening their hearts to the unending sky of dreams
Down to its deep fertile valleys
where we worked the soil with hardened hands
and perseverance of heart.
At the land's edges where waves of emotion lap against its jagged shores
we find tranquility in the sound of its crashing waves.
In the high deserts where life still abounds and its fragile existence yields to the windswept nature of chance.
In its open fields where our desires roam care free
to it’s densely wooded areas where we frolic in the beauty of its simplicity.
In its grandness we are but the migratory animals who seek it's bounty from season to season.
From it we are born and die but the land remains to remind us that love endures and it's beauty exists to teach us to adapt to all of its wondrous and various forms.

A poem written while drunk and in under 3 minutes....

True Love will leave you broken

True Love will leave you broken

Unitl all the words remain unspoken

True Love will leave you broken

True Love will leave you broken

Until your hearts wide open

True Love will leave you broken

True Love will leave you broken

Will leave you standing at the door

True Love will leave you broken

True Love will leave you broken

Until it leaves you begging  for more

True Love will leave you broken

True Love will leave you broken

Until you can't take any more...

She is my Autumn night
GreenTrees Dec 2013
Two shadows cast down a winding trail under a sleepy moon's gaze
Like waking from a night of slumbering under heavy winter blankets, plumes of smoke rise from small brick beds
The shadows sway and dance under the last  breaths of  sun slipping into the night

When I hold on to her like the last days of summer,  but she is like the end of Autumn
When red and gold love letters fill the trees
When the last red ribbons of a sunset caress her face

In her eyes I see the low hung stars of an autumn sky
In her kiss the last sonnet of a season's end
In her arms the warmth of a fire set to welcome the first winter night
