By people who didn't
Talking about contribution
Not honoring their word
Telling people to not talk
No longer associate for conduct
Being down on your luck
Talking big in crowds like a coward
Not saying anything one on one

Came home a college drop out
An alcohol in recovery
Always writing to stay clean
Helped with sobriety
Cleared the mind came to terms
Cousins teaming up making a fuss
Treated like an outcast
Learned to be solo got cut off
Enjoy silence alone being kept out
Couldn't work a struggling economy
Never wanted to be with them
Told how to be just trying to be me
How to live never had it worked for it
Didn't have transportation
Started working finally got a car
Things started looking up
After being tough adjusting to family
Adapting to the work schedule

Don't want to be in the middle
A fire between daughter and son
Both stubborn set in their ways
Quick to point out everyone's flaw
Tell you you're bad for being different
They've done worse love family
Don't expect sympathy no remorse
Instead of helping you up
They are the ones putting you down

The mouth wants to strike back
Always made out to be the bad guy
For Having an opinion not the same
Stood tall stand up for one's self
Entitled to beliefs some change
Without confrontation or imposition
Trying not to relapse over frustration
Want the real thing over cheap thrills
Been taking the back roads
Anxious to be on the main streets
Things that brought joy lost value
Not the same as before older now
More selective not quick to rush
An old life with encounters
The new life remembering
Past experiences life lesson
The chase no longer the same
Hard to trust broken friendships
Diverse time growth from the past
Over time progression made

Told to provide a solution
Easy to point out the problem
Stand for the flag out of respect
Pray to God its my faith and beliefs
Accepting of theirs a disagreement
Not one to impose others way of life
Wish people would educate others
Not belittle them some are unaware
Bring awareness don't force anyone
Everyone has freedom of speech
And the right to do so as they may
Stop breaking the law focus on living
Earn it not take it be open to change
Open to grow be open to learn
Sometimes change for the better
Trying to comprehend the new
Understand is the challenge

A child that has to ask for a hug
Heart breaking to see
A supporting father
Who'd rather work
Love don't pay the bills
Repeating patterns of the past
A child left with grandma
A crying child daddy works night
Sleep deprived waiting for his return
Mom and dad couldn't make it work
Doesn't mean they stopped
Loving the child both providing
