Alone

Alone
Webster says it means without anyone else
I say it means when your soul melts

Alone just isn't by yourself
Alone is putting your personality on a dusty old shelf
Like an old book that you've finished reading
You stand solitary and useless
And deep down inside your heart is bleeding

Bleeding from what? you may ask
A simple thing, just one little task
A quest for love...
A quest to live the dream that everyone around you lives
But you can't
Instead it's just you and only you standing there
Hopeless as you stand in front of that mirror

The heart yearns for attention that you'll seemingly never receive
But something inside tells you to believe
Only to be let down time and again
Love hurts. Love stinks. amen.

Your friends always tell you that you aren't alone
But that phrase has merely become a drone
Alone is a constant battle of ups and downs
But mostly downs
And you wonder if you'll ever find love

They say give it time, you're young
But isn't nearly 20 years long enough?
Enough to experience what God intended us to all feel?
20 years by yourself is rough

And after your apparently endless fall
Maybe it's best to leave the book on the shelf after all...
a story from your neighborhood broken hearted individual

Goodbyes never hurt me
It's always the memories that follow
To live in such a cruel reality
A world so insensitive and shallow

A goodbye is just a moment
But the memories are stuck on replay
To think we deserve such torment
We remember each and every day

A goodbye will not hurt you
But the memories will shatter your being
Break your heart into pieces
Your life may even lose meaning

Goodbyes do not hurt you
They are only the beginning
A life that was once so simple
Turned into a life so unforgiving

Dreaming of being alone
Not even close to being known
I'm unknown
Invisible like a shadow in the dark
Under the water like hammerhead shark
When I walk past, dogs don't even bark
Wandering the Earth
Not knowing how much I'm worth
Just walking around
Thinking I must be a let down
Frown on my face
Going at my own pace
Thinking if I really am a disgrace
Its hard to mantain my smiles
When I'm walked on like if i was a floor tile
Bout to flow away from this like the nile
Floating away like a ghost
Going through things from coast to coast
One day I'll come out of this shell
Maybe then I'll excel
But for now I say farewell

A dark room lit by fireflies
A frozen heart melted by her eyes
A touch so great it gives butterflies
A feeling so real it couldn't be a lie

A dark room lit by his smile
A heart warmed by the sound of his voice
A moment that is more than worthwhile
A feeling so great it makes her rejoice

A dark room lit by their happiness
Two hearts that can overcome any darkness
Two hands intertwined
And a feeling that will last until the end of time
Short poem with his/hers perspective.

Imagine being alone and free
Surrounded by lovely flowers and beautiful trees
Barefoot, and the grass tickles your feet
Nature all around you, what a treat

The wind blows in between your toes
In your hand is a thornless rose
The sweet aroma drifts into your nose
In this place there are no miseries or woes

Fast forward to a sandy beach
Many delightful seashells are within your reach
You feel the grainy sand as you grab a seashell with your hand
The waves gently crash onto the soft sand

The ocean gleams as the sun shines bright
But as you stare, mesmorized, it becomes night
The stars sparkle and the ocean glistens in the moonlight
And there's nothing in this world that could feel more right
