In the back of the old arcade,
A relic of a bygone decade,
An old and beaten machine stands,
Playing music from foreign lands.
I step in time with the beat,
Laughing as I quickly stomp my feet.
A flash of something catches my eye,
Is that you passing me by?
I pause, look around
But you're not to be found.
A phantom, a whisper, a dream...
Or at least so it may seem.

I was drunk when we met,
Tipsy and laughing freely,
My lips tasted like ***.
I wanted them to taste like you instead.

I thought you were handsome,
And your smile was warm and cute,
And when I saw how your cheeks flushed,
well,
I knew it was too late.

You made my heart thud fast,
And then several more meetings passed
And all I wanted was to hold your hand,
So I did. And you held mine.

Weeks passed that felt like moments,
heartbeats,
I loved every second. But you were sad,
Things were haunting you.
I told you to go, to heal yourself.

That broke my heart like nothing else.
I just wanted to kiss you, hold you, tell you it would be okay
But I knew that wouldn't be what helped
I knew that would only hold you back.

Now I wait with arms wide open,
Praying to see that sunshine smile,
The gentle way your cheeks flush,
the softness of your touch.

It's been a month,
I've missed you every day of it.
My friends must be tired of hearing
How much I wish you were here
How much I wish we could sit together,
Soaking up the evening sun.

I remember how I looked you in the eye,
How the golden sun shone above the sky,
How your words reached across the green field,
How your arms became my only shield.

We ran across the hills together,
Laughing no matter the whether,
You were a beacon of hope,
A gentle voice to help me cope.

'Home' stopped being walls and screams,
And started being eyes as blue as dreams.
'Joy' and 'hope' began to crawl into my life,
Despite the pain, the sorrow, the strife.

Days passed that turned to months,
And months to years, until
Until you were gone.
Until the laugh I loved was gone.

When that Summer ended I thought you would return,
My knight in shining armour,
My kind and gentle prince.
But you were gone.

Now I settle on those swings we once played beside,
and I look up to the blue, blue sky,
and there I still see your eyes, and I reach for them
Beyond the blue, blue sky.
Dedicated to my very first friend
