His fingers play strings
On my body so tight
As he drew back and forth
On these chords of my light
Unspoken melodies and haunting compositions
A song rife with grief, every note well positioned
Peter Grimm writes a symphony of disembodied souls
Warms his bones by a fire that he's fanned from the coals

Sacrifice my light for what it's worth.
Cover my petals in dark.
Make my colors invisible to your eyes.
Masquerade the rainbow underneath the deep dark shadow that follows.
But you will never rid of that small place inside
Where my light was planted in you.

How to put this
how to keep this
delicate
cleaning the childhood
out of mind
but keeping it
in mind
as I pull
up my shirt,
letting you feel
the scar
from my youth
and I'll be
seeing you soon,
I'll see you there
dirt
in our hair
and fireflies.

If I could have my way
we would only
grow younger
and not as strangers
to ourselves,
undoing all we know
cleaning the dust
off the shelf.
I know you better
in my chest,
girl as beacon
of light
of summers
in the past.

When you leave me
do it slowly,
keep me dark
keep me waiting.
Only the dirt
will know
what you're thinking,
as you sink
into the fever
of the season.
Mary,
lay on your back
with the tv
on
it lights up your dress
and turns your distress
into a million
colored lights.

Caught
in a small town
but you are
made up of the world
in your short skirt
and honey skin
only showing
in patches
when the sun touches
down upon
your window again.
In your old Buick,
a kaleidoscope
of summer
crashing down in
dreams
in the heat of this town.
A dream in which
I am turned around,
breathing in color
and looking for you
now.
A dream I had.

I followed a black jack rabbit
Through the wormholes of his brain
Taking pictures of his nightmares
As I tasted all his pain
His stories, meant to scare me,
Meant to fill my heart with dread
Only caused me to look deeper
At the scars between our heads
He never really meant to show me
All the things that I did see
For the tough skin he'd been growing
Now, transparent as the sea
I watched the brackish waters
Tumble through his web of veins
So alive and full of creatures
Waving wildly in his mane
He spoke of sweet devotions and a love as pure as gold
Yet I couldn't shake the feeling that my heart weren't his to hold
His words could not bring comfort if they didn't ring out true
Like a script resounds of duty,
This love weren't mine,
That's all I knew

South-by-Southwest
The fairies of the mound
hide under ground
when the light of the day reveals

But as the sun
makes it's final run
the fairies
come out to play

Then there are
those picked by stars
to be the forebearers
of burden and woe

They fly the skies
as night time byes
warning of death to come

Beware my friend
someone comes to an end
when the banshees
starts to wail

It's heard through wood or stone
in every home
no one escapes
the throes

And in the end
the wailing sends
another poor soul
to Hell

Banshees are a special breed
they come from the seed
of a star

In the mounds of folk
does their life evoke
a love afair of magic
from a man made out of a star

Sometimes the banshees will wail
when they think of the love
that parted so many years ago
and
so many light years away
