Voices
GracefulWords Nov 2014
Hear the voices
So many choices

Which would you like?
Here comes the strike
The joker, the depressed, the one who dreams?
Split personality? So it seems
Maybe you'd like to hear
They're getting closer- so near!
The one who's quiet, likes school, is neat
Time to go out; voices to greet
Or the bubbly, popular one
Quick, run
Perhaps the one with snarky comments
Use common sense
Oh, wait, you don't have a say
Go far away
In what invades your mind
Dark, cruel, or kind

Hear the voices
*But there's no choices

A
Poem
Is just a
Jumbled mix
Of words, shaped
And shifted according
To the writer's every whim-
Lovely, gray, unexpected, cliche,
Harsh, crisp, ragged, soft, or pointed
As an

Cub (Haiku)
GracefulWords Dec 2014
The cub crawls into
The cave’s mouth, into the world
Joy of existence
One quick note here: I use a site called oneword.com, which gives you- surprise- one word, and you then have a minute to write about it. Good way to relieve writer's (or poet's) block, and I'd suggest you all try it. Today's word was cub.

Knocking
GracefulWords Dec 2014
Fear knocks
And I reason
It away

Grudges knock
And they're gone
Within a day

Doubt knocks
But it I
Will allay

Monotony knocks
From the path
I'll stray

Pressure knocks
But that I
Can delay

You knock-
And insist
You'll stay

White keys, accented with black
Dark wood, polished to a shine

Perfectly tuned, sound so fine

DARKNESS
GracefulWords Nov 2014
The girl feels the darkness
Closely
Creeping

She stands, afraid,
Crying
Weeping

She smiles, she laughs,
And it
Abates

But it's not over- the
Darkness
Waits

When the lights grow
Dim
Again

The failed dreams, the wishes, the sorrow
Come
In

And then all that she
Can
Do

Is wait, and survive, endure-
Stay
True

Sorting
GracefulWords Nov 2014
Looking through old belongings,
Knicks, knacks, and other things.

A paper she wrote three years past,
Ticket to a show from summer before last.
A wallet containing five dollars and some,
An old, slightly mushy piece of gum.
Blue ribbon from the first-grade Field Day-
The picture taken when a friend came to stay.

Some things just have to be tossed;
Others are treasures that she'd lost.

Sorting through her childhood,
She sees she's grown... for ill or for good.

GracefulWords Jan 2015
The clamor of attention
The cry of the crowd
This is what she wanted
Her dream, her hope, her song

The only thing that felt 'right'
Was her future as a star
But now she's finally here
And realizing she was wrong

sit and wonder
GracefulWords Dec 2014
Sometimes I sit here
and
wonder about you.

Have you come near?
Or
Have you gone away?

Do you look in the mirror
And
See how you've changed?

Are your memories clear
Or
Can you not picture me?

When you're quiet, do I appear
In
Your thoughts like you do in mine?

Am I as great a fear
To
You as you are to me?

(Until the End)
GracefulWords Nov 2014
Best friends
(Well, until the end)

One I could trust
You listened
We laughed
We cried
It didn't matter; just together

Friendship to rust
We fought
You yelled
I stepped back
And felt light as a feather

Every time
I'd come back;
You were my
Only true friend
I shouldn't let you go

If I had a dime
For every sharp
Word we'd thrown
I'd be rich
Worth it? No

Then you disappeared
I was
suddenly free
But alone
Me, isolated

I changed and feared,
Made different
Friends
Who helped me
But it was fated

You came back
I was
Thrilled-
Time erases pain
Through and through

You tried to fill in your tracks
Left behind
But other friends
Were already there
No space for you

Best friends
(Well, until the end)

GracefulWords Nov 2014
Everything I do
Is a scream for attention,
A call for validation,
A plea for someone to notice

I don't want to be told 'shoo'
Please just listen
Tell me I'm not invisible
Tell me I've done well

That's all I need- for you
To care and to say
That I matter, to give
Me congratulations

So I'm selfish- yeah, what's new?
