midnight, floodlights
purse seiners packed in tight
anchored on the fragile shoal
shadows play on the white wall
dune grass, needle, leaf of tree
gallows rising from the sea
back and forth the tenders run
salmon gathered one by one

                                 the struggle and the toil

                                                         the silver flashing fins

                                                                            leaping from the net

                                                                                            slipping back within

Who am I,
Who should I be,
I have no clue,
But I question thee.

An answer unknown,
To both you and me,

To who seeks,
To who questions,
To who does not believe
That one remains unchanged!

I made my way
Through the raging years
To a certain tenderness
And I've known
A grown man's tears
And the agony of emptiness

And in my time
I have done and seen
More than I could stand
But what was then
And wherever I've been
I'm just another tired man

The light touches
of the wind,
caress the blush
in reddened cheeks.

Gentle fingers abscond
with the moisture
in hapless tears.

Teasing playfully,
the obstinacy
of wayward strands.

Inciting a smile
from a heavy heart,
lifting off the anvil
that carry all fears.
