I cannot think
I cannot breathe
This thought keeps pounding
It will not leave

No matter how I try
This thought keeps pounding

No matter my cry
This thought keeps pounding

It tells me
I am wrong to forget
Wrong to take a step
Wrong

How could you?
Do you not care?

I was once wise, but now, old
All I am, is shelter from the cold

Stripped back, until survival is all
Hold me steady and delay my fall

But the signs are clear, they are my fear
Who keeps their will, when their end is clear?

A forgotten fool for facing it whole
But who's to say denial heals the soul?

I see in your eyes, a reminder of the days
Before i saw you in disturbing haze

You ask me one last time, to remember our dreams
But they're of another life and i'm tearing at the seams
This poem is from the point of view of a dementia victim, who is trying to tell their partner that they know it's over for them, and that it is better to accept it, but cannot bring this point across.

Is there a pill tougher, than that of time?
Swallow or not, it marches on
Caring not for thoughts of apathy
So don't waste a life, wondering on
Places you'd see, or people you'd rather be
People won't stand aside, and welcome you to
The dreams you lock up for none to see

For i see a blank canvas, without a story to share
Shutting out undeserving company
They don't know your dreams, you don't care for theirs
They only remind you, of you
So, to another day spent staring, at these four walls
As blank as the canvas, you call your life

I sit across from you, you stare into my eyes and say
All the flowers, they wilt in the end
They will never return, not in the same
Some victories come easy and some losses never leave
Some people walk away no matter what you say
But new roots will grow, faster than you know
Not everything is for a lifetime, so permanent and still
The world is transient and so are you
But don’t be fooled you’ve got a life to lead
It’s just not your time to win this time
Wait and little while and you’ll see
All the flowers, they will rise again

As your excitement flows from your body to mine i know you’re the key to my ending entropy

All i desire is to grasp you by the arm but it’s your words i read when it’s your voice i need

Yes, i’ve heard it through the phone but it’s not the same until you call my name

A missed chance and a party to blame, i know it’s me, come and collect the guilty fee

Uncertainty grows as its arms surround me, pushing on my heaving chest pulling me from my rest

Will i one day sit beside you in a room empty but for our energy?

when the rain ceases to pour
a blanket over your mind
when you hear the heavens roar
never so kind
as the winter refuses to end
and the flowers wait another day
you think of the letters you didn’t send
and the words you couldn’t say
and with each setting sun
you wish for the bloom
reminding winter is done
with the end of your gloom

his jagged edges strike fear
into your heart as your draw near
the dark of his broken alley
holds the end of many

blanketed in the winter snow
blinded from what lies below
for many have found
broken feet upon this ground

on this path you will find
a fading sense of time
as he draws you in
through lights growing dim

he lets out a gentle whisper
of where he left her
he calls out your name
but you refuse his game
