Vale Luna
The Sun told me he was dying
And of course
I didn't believe him

Until the sky went black

I suppose it was in epiphany
That in that moment
The world had gone cold

Excitement in the eyes of the crazy
Panic in the heart of the insane
And Confusion in the mind of the dumb
Because the Sun had died

Melodramatic as ever
His death only lasted a minute and a half
And when he resurrected
The earth was warm again
Relief washing over him
Knowing that he hadn't abandoned
The ones who needed him most

It was seeing the Sun in that crescent shape
That caused me to realized
It was the Moon herself
That had stolen the spotlight
His spotlight

When it's just the two of us
Alone
(With all the other stars)
I ask her
“Why did you overshadow
The one you call your brother?”

From this
She looks down at me
A reflection of sadness
Buried deep within her craters
She sighs

And she tells me.

At least once
Every one hundred years
She wants people to look at her
In the daytime
And understand
That she might not bring heat and light
But she is part of our solar system too.

So now
I understand her
Because I listen to her
Because I see her
Because despite the thousands of miles
Separating us
Our hearts
Seem to beat
At the same time.

Paraphrase
I have been here,
Since the bench we now sit on,
Was still a tree, swaying in the wind.

Since the surreal morning skies we see,
Were just thoughts,
In a young boy's untethered imagination.

I have been here,
From a time when change of seasons were marked,
By the games we managed to play.

Since adventures that we embarked upon,
Were just harmless journeys,
Of 13 miles, to the very edges of the city.

It is time for me to go,
Chasing surreal skies I have not already seen,
To the edges of new cities.

This time, I will be gone long,
But when I lose myself,
To untethered imagination,
It is still thoughts of you I'll see.

Wait for me, my love,
For when I give in,
To whims of temporary escape,
In your arms is where I'll be.

It is time for me to go,
Chasing surreal skies I have not already seen,
To the edges of new cities.

She
She thought about trains
And what they looked like
The stations and how it'd feel
Just to sit and wait while figures pass
What it would feel like
To sit next to a perfect stranger
Everyday of the week
She thought she could live there
That place with trains
Grey stations and faces
She thought she'd never leave
Because when the snow hit
She could forget
All she felt before
She wanted messy love in the fall
The leaves changing colors
Smiles as bright as the sun
She wanted genuine silence
And admiration
The boots that fit snug
Wrapped around her ankles
She wanted to feel pretty
In pea coat in the rain
She wanted respect
The sort of acknowledgement
That anyone should get
She wanted to share her heart
With everyone who fell apart
She wanted simplicity
And hell
In one big shot
She wanted to live
And know she was

Sun
The sun shone down
upon us.
It glowed.
A star, a shining ball,
mass and lava
light and gas,
it warms us all.

You told me I could starve,
for all you care.

I am not made of your blood.
I am not woven from your hair.

For each bitter,
venomous word
that drips from your crooked lips

I will rejoice

in that you have given me
one final reason

to cut
your crushing hands
from my throat.
