The poet lives two lives.
One on the outside,
And one in their mind.

When you look in their eyes
You could see an abyss.

If you looked long enough
You could sink into it.

But most people don’t see it.

Take the time to read the words, though,
And you would know for sure.

The poet lives in two different worlds.
A little escape from the madness.
Or maybe, into.

flatten your tongue
slip it between your teeth

n.

your little lips
forming an elipsis

o.

put them together
and may you declare
a word you’d so carefully deny—
no.

you spell it out
on table tops
shout it
from the rooftops

and when cursed hands
seek to defile your shrine
may you exclaim
"i am mine"
for my precious friends with hearts too soft to say no. may you be a little more selfish.

I smell the air
and taste the breeze.
I sense a presence there;
a kindred spirit next to me
that hovers everywhere.

As the conversation slides
into naked silence
swollen memories
throb within her mind

stripped of feeling
she is compelled to dance
one ghostly sacrament
before granting
her velvet promise

later
alone
lost in empty benediction
she washes away
the aftertaste
to heal her soul

before Morpheus
weaves
his golden fantasies
silky
soft
delicious
in the hazy shadows of sleep

where
like a delicate spider
on the surface of a pool
her mind
hovering in placid desire
forgets
tomorrow's void
Today
I have everything
Tomorrow
Maybe
A little less

And
Then
Something

But
Always hope
To hold on to
One thing
Being

Sometimes writing poetry
is all we've got
Exclaiming our feelings with words
Is all we've got
Fighting for change with words
Is all we've got

Sometimes arming ourselves with haikus
Is all we've got
Exploding bitter pills with prose
is all we've got
Soothing our scorching wounds with sonnets
Is all we've got
Asking for mercy, love, unity and peace in repetition
Is all we've got

Sometimes writing poetry for you
Is all he's got
With every stanza he wrote, he bought a Ferrari
with every rhyme she wrote, she bought you a mansion
because
that's all he's got

So dream

Pray

Shout

Love

With words
because
that's all we've got

And one day
I realised that when the hope
tries to rescue me,
the remnants of the past does fall
forming a wall
between me
and the hope,
The memories haunt
the demons flaunt,
and unknowingly wandering
in the same dark dilapidated castles,
I end up rewriting
the old stories....

Trying to move past the hurting past...
