Cheek bones
High and sharp
Press against your heart
Hold her close
She could slice you
Take your heart
But
She never draws
First blood
Work in progress

It is too late to erase your name
from my heart
and the words carved your name
onto my flesh
Every corner I turn and every thought I have
reminds me of that horrible past of mine.
When I'd strip down to examine my
body
for which is made of skin covered bone
the skin that bares your name
will
always remind me of that past
we both had once shared.
It is not suppose to be this hard
to forget about our history
some people learn to let go quick
and that is what remains a mystery to
me

Dust Bowl Mar 2016
It absorbs me, you know?
Like a black hole
I fall into a recess,
A void in my mind.
It's like my insides dig their way out,
Surround me,
Dragging the puppet show smile
Into the center,
Hiding it like a bad gift.
I twist out of myself,
The darkest parts come center stage,
The spotlight a stark contrast.
The cold spot of my dreams
Drinking up the light
Turning into every lucid thought
we push aside.
I marry it
Like a death sentence,
Both prey and predator,
A battle along the seams of my skin.
They have to drag me out of it
Like a grave:
I want it badly,
Permanent and aching.
Romanticism is a bad habit I have yet to break.

I recognize
this ground
laced with stones
and poisoned barbs
hike barefoot here
unafraid

a barren desert
feels like home
when there is nothing
to be lost or gained

I have been here
many times before
stripped down naked
in the noonday sun
watching vultures
wheel and dive

as I dangle
twist and spin
ever the enabler
enabling

They pull a string, she jerks her head,
They say ‘do this’, ‘ok’ she says.
Bound by the strings that’s where she’ll go,
Never feeling more alone.

But her head is wooden, it cannot feel.
They choose her story, that’s the deal.
So her smile it glistens, her heart is sings,
Whilst bound to eternity by the strings.

They burn and mark her skin so fair,
She curls up tight and says a prayer.
But the time has come to take a stand,
To rise to the challenge, no helping hand.

As the sun falls and the night creeps in,
She prepares to commit the most wickedly sin.
Whilst they cast her away and let arrogance fly,
She had been keeping a watchful eye.

The almighty blades, they shone in the light
She hurled herself forward, they were in plain sight.
The sting of cold metal, it gave her a rush,
As she cut the strings, with a final PUSH.

They pull a string and I’m not there,
They say ‘do this’ and I don’t care.
I see their game, but they can’t see me,
As I watch from behind the curtain with glee.

Lou Morgan
you were an ice cream cone
on a hot summer day
easy to hold
and sweet against my lips

you were a song on the radio
on a breezy evening
running through my mind
the reason for my smile

you were a sunset
after a long hopeful day
so beautiful for the time being
and gone in an instant
