The first time you kissed me
I knew I loved you
but I could not have you

The first time you touched me
I knew I needed you
but it wasn’t our time

The first time we made love
I knew I could not let go
but in the end I had to

The first time I told you
“I love you”
I let it slip out, so effortlessly
but you, still, were just out of my reach

The first time you
called me your girlfriend
made me realize anything before “us”
was utterly meaningless
God, I love you.

When I look at you
my heart aches
I am uprooted
like a tree in a hurricane
I am floating away
in an ocean full of sorrow
I am stricken with
the burden of love
when I look at you
my heart longs
to belong with yours

You were
One of a kind
If you don’t
Mind
Let me close
My eyes
And dream
It was so...

Stepping, swirling, across the floor.
Changing, breathing, pausing,
Relishing the sweet moments between.
New hands to grasp, words to utter,
The same steps in a different embrace.
Ending where I began with a new life,
Another cycle, slowly danced through time.

If this is freedom
Why do so many
Wear chains
If this is liberation
Why do so many
Find early graves
If this is the dream
Everyone wants to live
Please wake me up.
It’s better than
A nightmare
At least,
Hardly a lullaby,
Possibly
A freak show
On Parade in "paradise?"
What happened to...
Humanity
Prevails
This is abstract and open to interpretation...world dissection...in poetic form.
