Why?
Daniel Tabone Apr 2016
Why do we do what we do?
Is someone forcing us?
Is it by nature that human beings strive for a reason of existence?

Are we the dominant species of the planet?
Or are a select few who dominate us?
The ones in power, the ones up there.

Why are the rules set?
Who set those rules in the first place?
As a kid – go to school.
As an adult - go to work.

Why do we limit ourselves like this?

Will I ever rebel?
Probably not.
I enjoy living by these rules,
I like these rules,
They make me feel safe.

A normal day
Daniel Tabone Apr 2016
The day is over,
The sweat is dry,
Eyelids won’t open,
I cannot try;

My back is aching,
And my feet burn,
Driving back home,
Look what I earn;

The day is over,
The air is cool,
And I remember,
I still have school;

****.

Mirror
Daniel Tabone Jun 2015
Looking into the mirror,
But I can't see myself,
All I can see is horror;

My face is ******,
And full of bruises,
But I feel no pain,
Not physical at least;

I see a tear,
rolling down my face,
It is not sorrow,
But it's relief;

Fragments
Daniel Tabone Jun 2015
We all go around the day,
We are all on our way,
Some are to work,
Some are to school,
We are all part of a bigger picture;

I’m just a fragment,
And you are so too,
Our lives are together,
A part of the matter;

We have been taught,
Alone we are worthless,
We have been moulded,
To fit into the system,
But this is no way,
To reach our full potential;

This is a prison,
Guarded by bureaucracy,
And funded by those in power,
We gave up our freedom,
For a little bit of money;

Light House
Daniel Tabone Jun 2015
Whenever I’m lost,
Whenever I fall,
I look for you,
My lighthouse in night;

You shine brighter,
When it is dark,
Always there,
To guide me to safety;

Whenever I’m alone,
And nowhere to go,
I look for you,
And run into your arms;

You are my anchor,
My point of reference,
Never waiver,
Always guiding;

Intricate
Daniel Tabone May 2015
Everything has a cycle,
Everything has an end,
But where did it start,
And where will it end;

Flowers bloom,
Then they dry up,
They produce seeds,
And so it proceeds;

No way to know,
How it all started,
Nowhere to find,
The answers we seek;

We might ask god,
We might ask science,
But so far,
We have no answers;

We dig deeper into the seed,
We find it to be interesting,
And get some answers,
But along with that,
We get more questions;

We see the cells,
Moving around,
They all have a purpose,
To keep life abound;

We dig and dig,
The more answers – the more questions,
When will it end?
When will we know all?

I found you
Daniel Tabone May 2015
We’re so far away,
You’re just a speck of light,
The distance is monstrous,
But I found you;

I searched long and wide,
I never lost hope,
I looked towards the light,
Through the Hubble telescope;

There you were,
Awaiting discovery,
No one knew,
You were to be found by me;

A ball of gas,
Around a sun,
Round you go,
Blinking every time you pass;

Daniel Tabone May 2015
May your special day be filled with happiness,
May you get all you crave,
I know that I drive you up the wall,
But I do it out of love;

You are great,
You are love,
That is the trait,
That comes from above;

You always push forward,
And work tirelessly,
I never figured,
That it was all for me;

Almost the end of May,
And you’ve given me so much,
But today is your day,
So enjoy it to the full;

We protect the women,
We defend equality,
We are the beacon,

And to oppress the violent;

We instigate thought,
We promote stability,
We educate,
This is our reality;

What comes to mind?
Daniel Tabone Mar 2015
You ask me,
I say “Nothing”,
That is the key,
I’m just rushing;

I think of the sea,
And of the sky,
I think of the bee,
That’s on the pie;

I think of the stars,
And how they move,
I think of the bars,
When I’m in the groove;

I think of nature,
And how it grows,
I think of the flavour,
Of something that’s gross;

“What’s on my mind?” You ask,
“Nothing” I say,
That’s just my mask,
It’s just a play;

Spring
Daniel Tabone Mar 2015
I open my arms with acceptance,
With every minute that passes,
I get feelings of spring,
So I can merge with your masses;

As distant as the sky,
As blue as the sea,
You wide green field,
Only you I am eager to see.

Breaking Prejudice
Daniel Tabone Feb 2015
You were razed,
To hate my kind,
You broke the prejudice,
You’re not blind;

You don’t trust me,
And I get it,
You barely know me,
Or just a bit;

You confided in me,
You know I’m here,
For anything you need,
For anything you fear;

I’ll get to the inner circle,
One way or another,
I’m patient like that,
I feel like a brother;

New Horizons
Daniel Tabone Feb 2015
I was stuck in a dark alley,
That led to nowhere,
I didn’t like it,
It wasn’t fair;

I looked around,
Searched for ages,
To find a way,
To get better wages;

Finally it’s here,
Finally I found it,
New road ahead,
In which I can fit;

I hope that this time,
I settle on this road,
And find my way,
To the top of the node.

No more requests,
You’re wearing me down,

I had hopes,
I had dreams,
Thanks to this life,
None remains.

Society wants,
Society needs,
That’s all a waste,
But life proceeds.

Everyone wants me to behave,
While destroying my dream,
I need to live,
I just want to scream.

Is it so wrong?
That I don’t want,
What society provides,
It’s just a taunt.

New Tidings
Daniel Tabone Jan 2015
I’m not healthy,
I’m not strong,
I run – I cough,
It feels so wrong;

I used to run,
For hours on end,
I started smoking,
Just to feel cool;

Now no more;

I eat and drink,
And then some more,
Cannot reach,
My feet anymore;

I will move,
I will diet,
Not for the looks,
It’s all for health;

I need self-control,
I need support.

Fragile as a flower,

I hold you as my child.

I hug you,
you scratch me,
no reason to.

I still love you,
even though you brought me grief.

It surges through my body like electricity.

The hail is thumping against the windows,
Lightning and thunder light up the house,
I thank the god that I am indoors;

Wood burning,
Fire crackling,
The smell of oak
Is so relaxing;

This is what makes my house a home,
This is what fills my heart with hope;

No more tree,
No more lights,
Don’t you agree?
We miss the nights.

The house is empty,
No more embellished,
Everything was hefty,
Still smell the meat was relished.

Can’t hear the bells,
Neither the music,
Nothing else dwells.

An empty dwelling,
That’s all the remains,
There’s no foretelling,
What where the gains.

Two sizes more,
Feel like a boar,
My **** is sore,
Need to run for.

Every day,
Every night,
We chat – we speak,
We never fight;

Is this marriage?
Is this love?
It’s neither,
We just met online;

We chat every day,
Every spare minute I spend with you;

At work I think,
In bed I dream,
You fill the empty,
That’s in my heart;

Is this marriage?
Is this love?
It’s neither,
We just met online;

You made me laugh,
You made me smile,
You made me curious,
And also cry;

We respect,
We converse,
We feel good,
When we do this;

Is this marriage?
Is this love?
It’s neither,
We just met online;

We are close together,
And yet so far away,
We share thoughts,
We share secrets,
Yet we don’t know,
What each of us smells like;

I can dream,
I can hope,
That we’ll someday,
Meet and hug;

Is this marriage?
Is this love?
No it’s not,

Cage
Daniel Tabone Dec 2014
Running in the woods,
Chasing prey,
Ruling the forest,
These things no more;

They came with guns,
And shot their stuns;

Woke up in a cage,
Nowhere to run,
Barely any space,
To get some fun;

They came with sticks,
And sharpened spikes,
Pushing and stabbing,
Making me do stunts;

People cheer,
Lights so bright,
Haven’t had a proper meal,
I cannot fight;

Fur starts to fall,
Eyes start to dull,
No more strength,
To perform;

While in my cage,
My tiny kingdom,
People came in,
Am I free?

The men had spikes,
That shined in light,
A gun pointed at me,
Is this really my flight?

Only you are on my mind,
I hope you think of me as well,
As much as I think of you;

I sit at my desk,
Skype on all the time,
Waiting for you,
To come back online;

Last message I sent,
Was an hour ago,
I’m sick of waiting,
But where would I go;

I receive a message,
And my heart skips a beat,
Words full of sweetness,
Start shuffling in my seat;

I want to tell you something,
But I’m scared of what would come,
You could get scared,
You could be hurt,
I can’t lose you,
You are priceless to me;
We chat along,
As real good friends,
The secrets I keep,
Are clawing at me;

Pretend I have none to say,
Pretend all is cool,
I’m screaming,
I’m feeling,
My tears fill a pool;

Time to sleep,
Time to leave,
I hug my pillow hard,
Pretend that it’s you,
I’m just a fool,
Trying not to heave;

This is my never ending cycle,
My feelings never changing;
