stars spilled out from the night sky
into morning, mourning,
and
so did your skin.

please know, your
voice is
louder than any gunshot now
even as new bullets echo against
your gravestone.

it's just me
huddled on your end of the couch
some pointless game flashing on the screen
ice cream filling my mouth
my friend at the other end trying to fly
the blanket is too scratchy
and the ice cream is too cold
blood on my tongue (and i don't know why)
with so many words to be told
i don't know the point of this poem
just putting random feelings into words
once again just wondering
what it would be like to be heard

i see the sadness in your eyes when you think no one is looking
and my insides are screaming because there is n o t h i n g i can do
the way you curl up to protect yourself
i know that feeling
i k n o w
because i feel it every single day of my life
i still the way you felt against me
locked in your arms i've never felt so safe

I miss you

my box of journals caught fire

memories hold heat, see
above the box spring and mattress
I lay lit by your memory
back to the sheets
head slightly off the bed
then I dropped a thought of you.
just a small mental snap;
the curve of your back…
that’s the only kindling our heat needed to sizzle
now I’m drenched in fire~

there are rainbows and trenches
deep under ground; circles and
triangles and cacophonous sounds
there are stars and supernovas
and lovers at night, there's an
opaque barrier of which deflects
your misguided light. there are
satellites and sea turtles and
caterpillars in their cocoons, there
are butterflies and melodies sung
melancholy and out-of-tune
there are eyes and collarbones,
the arch of your back, too, there
are daffodils in your garden and
untied shoes. there are wishes
and wonders and a sea as grand
as the sky, there are gallivanting
fish whilst eagles dance mid-flight.
there's me there's you there's 7
billion others; there's a world
hellbent on destroying one another
there's war and destruction and
death uncomfortably close and
sometimes among it all, we forget
we're a rock mid-float. there's
life and there's breath and two
lips in sync, there's romance with
love letters written in ink; what's
important in life is living it
marvellously, take a second to
smile at the people you see,
a moment to give to the less
fortunate, generously. one life
to live and one heart to maintain,
a kindness to give and a world
to sustain. if we weren't so busy
breeding hate, we'd walk hand
in hand towards the horizon, and
create our own tumultuous fate.

a place to dream

today i saw a row of schoolchildren at an airport
observing the beehive from the outside
they have never touched the skyline
they have never been inside
they live on the outskirts of this city
their lives are a contrast to mine

i could see the wonder painted on their faces
they were dreaming
in their private minds
they had become more than school children
they were a part of the city
they had a seat on the plane
we all have dreams

feeble ribs
caressing porcelain
hearts

ink dipped tongue
every word he
uttered was
poetry

she painted him
with hues of gray
leaving a piece
of her crumbling
soul in each
stroke

his sleepless nights
spent with
pencil smudged
fingers
trying to find
the words
to describe her

they were 2:00 am
lovers
with blemished
hearts trying
to find love
in each other
