the summer's breeze
may you see the light
of which your dreams shine from the night before
as golden as the blissful sun
wrapping you in its warmth and glory

may you feel the rush of love
you expect from others, from your self
like the glistening river
that flows into the unknown

may you feel the hand of grace
touching you like the summer’s breeze
as surreal as the colours of the sky
breaking you down to make you feel whole again

may you someday find your heart
even when everything feels like it is falling apart
with the soft summer’s breeze
to pink your cheeks and warm your soul

flames
her eyes danced to the rhythm of the flickering flames
trying to stay lit despite the crack in the windowpane
wallowing in the sound of fire and this luminous portrait
across the room of her fears and her faith

misfits
we’re told we are round pegs in square holes
with minds and dreams beyond our years
so we grow to be into the world
as wary right-brained wanderers
oblivious misfits looking for romantic nooks
versions of our own leather-bound fears
seeking tales of the past and fantasies of the future
isn’t imagination real beneath all its layers?

soon you grow up and find your truth
this life is yours and not theirs to choose

maybe we are round pegs in square holes
with minds and dreams beyond our years
so breathe you, breathe to the rhythm of your soul
live not to be liked, live to remember
we’re only travellers after all
with borrowed time and experiences to treasure
then why live to be liked
when we can live for ourselves in golden measure?

living prayer
i see your eyes dancing
to the flickering lights
as the shadows shimmer
on our balcony tiles

rocking on your heels to
the rhythm of the night
simply radiant with
no sorrows or lies

you make sacrifices
seem like your prize
breathing love and gratitude
into our days and nights

but oh baby girl
you can’t always disguise
all those dreams you have
for the sake of our lives

Mothers and daughters
All those days we talked about our endless dreams
Where worlds lit up and rainbows never die
We'd talk for hours, cause that's what best friends do
We love, live and grow together as one

We fight each other, challenge each other
Never as much as we would fight for each other
We'd talk for hours, cause that's what best friends do
Come rain or sunshine, we'll stand together as one

Through high school dramas and mid-life crises
We found that balance to beat the odds
We'd talk for hours, cause that's what best friends do
Even on our darkest days, we got through it as one

I'm lucky I found my best friend in my mum
I'm truly the luckiest one!

Sunrise sunset
She wanted to watch the sun rise, he escaped as it set

He held her close on her darkest days
He gave her hope that she could find love again
She laughed again, out loud, for the first time in years
For he held her close on her darkest days

He held her close on her darkest days
He gave her time, he paid attention
He broke the walls and calmed the storm within her soul
For he held her close on her darkest days

He held her close on her darkest days
Only to free his hand from hers when she finally learnt to dance in the rain again
She was his project and the end was near
For he only held her close on her darkest days

He held her close on her darkest days
The flowers bloomed but in her soul deep darkness loomed
He promised her sunshine but left her cold rain
For he only held her close on her darkest days

Remember
you do not have to struggle
you do not have to fight
you do not have to win
you only have to know
This was a  verse written for my by my father on my first birthday

Fathers and daughters
she was his rainbow
he was her sky
his world changed the moment she was in his arms
all it took was a newborn’s cry

you could see it in her eyes
the depth of his unconditional love undisguised
you could see it in his smile
his newfound purpose and pride

he held her against his chest
as he rocked her to bed
years later she would sit by his feet
while he rocked himself to sleep

he was her greatest strength
she was his biggest fear
fathers and daughters
their love was unspoken yet so sincere

he was her friend, philosopher and father
their relationship was like no other
a bond formed so strong
as the skies transformed from dusk to dawn

nine years later
she still wears his watch
turning it back to the day
wondering what if time could stop

time erases nothing
every precious memory still fills her heart
to this day you can see it in her eyes
the depth of his unconditional love undisguised

their beings were one
their souls entwined
despite this distance
he was, is and will always be mine

Candle in the wind
She stared out of her window
Hoping to see his pretty face
But hiding beneath the shadows
Were empty promises and malaise

She longed for hope, for love, for him
But all she could hear in that moment
Were unanswered telephone rings
And the words in her mind, unspoken

She stared out of her window
Pages of her diary flipping with the breeze
She turned to her last words just written
Three words, eight letters, inked on paper with ease

Her love for him was like a candle in the wind
Lit by the hope of a bright tomorrow
It shone against the gentle breeze that came in unseen
Flickering in darkness, she lay on the floor wrapped in an everglow

I will be
I don’t know who I want to be,
or even if I want to be,
but if I ever am,
I will be…fierce.

Nightfall
Gold air turns to dusk
still clothed in warm light
with colours of the rainbow
floating through an autumn sky

As the night comes on
voices echo in my head
our skinny love wakes my soul
it leaves me bare

Stars hang in the winter sky
like our love in my heart
but as the night falls
I realise it's time for a new start

Was it just summer love?

Flowers
Wrapped in the colours of the wind,
each flower tells a different tale;
dancing to the rhythm of the earth,
some live to die, some die to live;
some die so that others live.
Flowers have always been a token of love, appreciation, and encouragement on different occasions – marriage, death, promotions, birthdays and so on. What’s their story?

Lovestruck
Our love was made for movie screens
Shining brightly on sunny days
Guided by starry nights
Over the coasts and horizons

Our love was made for movie screens
Awaiting the unknown
Never short of heartache
And yet so patient and kind

Our love was made for movie screens
Covered in kisses
Intense and wild
So deep and divine

Our love was made for movie screens
Lit up by fireworks in the sky
And butterflies within our beings
Our song on the radio, our hearts and bodies always entwined

Our love was made for movie screens
Nothing but a fantasy
Every moment so magical
Despite the distance, so unreal

Our love was made for movie screens
No matter the people
No matter the noise
You’re the firework, I’m the sky

Our love was made for movie screens
Filled with laughter and adventure
Made of you
Made for us

Ocean grace
The waves glistened under the violet hues,
chasing after her much like life.

Breaking boundaries and crashing against the earth,
the water pulled her in and held her close.

Breathe, the ocean whispered.

Between the vast skies and deep waters,
this was her chance to drown or rise in this ocean of grace.

Talking bodies
We’re all just talking bodies,
walking aimlessly,
looking for soulshine,
in deep dark valleys.
