Something Simple
Cascade of flowing vines
Mushrooms pushing through soft logs
The movement half glimpsed,
From the corner of your eyes
Cicadas buzz and hum softly then loudly
Lichen grows on damp rocks

They say that moss only grows
On the left sides of trees - or was it the right?
Pillow soft and dew beaded
Nature's cushion
Nature's stage for a round fairy ring
Secluded den

A centaur moves beneath the trees,
Dappled skin glowing
In yellow green light
Dainty steps
And the growing of things

I have to shout to you over the noise of the television
In the form of a million other eyes
Standing, waiting, weeping
Watching our country slowly drip with wet paint
Stained in the color of loss
Peace, by piece, by piece

Smothered by your haughtiness and weak foresight
I have abandoned hope to the intangible concept of your knife
slitting the throats of a future generation
cutting out their docile voices
so only yours can be heard
Our love is stronger than your hate.

Simpleton
In the silence of the morning
When only the husk of the moon remained
The smell of salt dripped down my throat
As I felt the beat of your heart move away
Everything was left saturated in the thick musk of loss

Dawn came like a siren
In haste
Impatient to turn the page
It swallowed you up into yesterday

Love didn't end wars
It started them

Those raining tears
Wouldn't wear off the beauty
Inside your soul
