Somewhere along the line we lost ourselves to our own minds
Prisoners held hostage by our fears
Irrationalities we let control our lives
With every waking moment
Every final breath that's taken
Another piece of ourselves is wiped away
Eroded by our long since cried tears
Deep within our hearts
Don't you hear the sounds of battle?
Don't you feel this beast in your bones?
Its clawing and kicking
Tearing its way out
Boiling beneath my skin
Just dying to escape

Carry me out of winter, love
Set me down in spring
Let our bare toes squish among the molecules of each mud puddle
I'll feel the freckles on my soles sink onto each blade of grass
Smell the wind blowing
Catch scents of approaching summer still tinged with the sharpness of the snow
And when you're chilled
The wind raising each follicle on your arms
A landscape of chapped skin and soft hairs
Run with me indoors
To sweet-smelling sheets
And the sound of the coming rainstorm's first drops
I wrote this as the extra cold Humboldt winter gave way to the still-fairly-cold Humboldt spring, when I was positively overwhelmed with love.
