Fleeting Rain
Caitlin Ellis Dec 2018
It is both a beautiful instance when;
the sound of rains' beginning patters
softly on the roof
and the silence afterwards
in rains' demise

The Room (draft)
Caitlin Ellis Dec 2018
Lousy with life
warm with haze
on walls, idols hang without any names

Dull with growth
bored as bloom
curtains, drab
a lifeless gloom

what was once the music, the life the dance
now is silence
the quiet trance

Like stones, words are stacked atop drawers
language it gathers
dust it falls

Unspoken
Caitlin Ellis Dec 2018
Words fight against waves to reach her lips
they linger till calm
and those that form in her chest
merely escape as a gentle whisper

I met a mystery
An auburn eyed chance
I met him in the afternoon
begin the labour of dance

He spoke in my language
Fed me familiar words
In that summer
There was a shift in our worlds

I met a mystery
He knew how to charm
His soft touch
On the tender of my arm

The calmness of the evening
My life just short of fright
The harsh striking of the day
But you were the night

I met a mystery
And it had been months
When we sat together again
words lifted from our tongues

It seems so easy
Plain sailing calm seas so true
But time would go by
And I wouldn't see you

I met a mystery
Resting in the shade of a tree
In the soft of the earth
he spoke to me

He told me his dreams
His voice so kind
He told me he loved me
I thought it was lies

I met a mystery
He showed me his heart
Everything he said and did
Didn't fall short from art

He had forgotten my words
But i remembered his fate
I now love the mystery
But i think it is too late

The Daily Life (draft)
Caitlin Ellis Mar 2019
I've sat once again
at the foot of my mother's old typewriter
journals of ideas scattered at my feet

The letter A is missing
I never realised the effect of one letter
the ripples it causes in an ocean
How it changes my writing, what I need to say

I dreamt of waves a few nights ago
At first they terrified me
but as they reached me
they were gentle and soft
welcoming like an old friend greeting me with a hug

I hope he is my missing letter
The ripples and waves in my ocean
and when he is not around
I am without

Goodbye Flowers
Caitlin Ellis Mar 2019
I have taken back my life
so much that the flowers have died
they lay lifeless on the counter
the same way i did as they bloomed

Is it selfish
that I really don't mind
the way they droop

The longing they carry
or the dark discolouration of petals
holding the open hands
outstretched by life itself

Goodbye flowers
it's been real

The Thief
Caitlin Ellis Mar 2019
Thief of words
Thief of mind
Is it envy?
Resonation?
Or is that poetry mine?
You mine and you dig at my future thoughts
Dig away at my throat till the language is lost
Tossed, torn, thrown aside
I lied
you cried , you're a tourist to my eyes
Shacked up in this place just somewhere to hide
Then I finally realised
They're yours to keep
Maybe to be a poet
I am just too weak
you're a thief of mind
Thief of soul
Carrier of mystery
Miner of gold
Float along now
With your shoulder strung sack
You're striped stealing suit
And your pen, jet black
Write the things I'm going to say
Cause they'll choke on my tongue or hit the hay anyway

Water Thoughts
Caitlin Ellis Apr 2019
The tides are fleeting
half an hour of pristine high waters
then stripped away
leaving debris of the oceans secrets ashore

Unlike home, where the tides go in and out
yet the notion of swimming stays intact

Perhaps the moon wants us to appreciate more here
If the ocean was this inviting all day long
we wouldn't revel in its beauty

Swimming in the high tide here
is like being on the moon
this calm state of being is so foreign to me
and I dance like a child in the soft of the Earth
like a dolphin after its feed
like a falling feather from a high flying bird

I've never been to the moon, but I imagine it like this
drifting, floating and fading away to this music
I've never been to the moon, but I imagine it like this
and I never want to be anywhere else

The Snake & The Fool
Caitlin Ellis Aug 2019
You're the snake
i'm the fool
take me in
make me drool

eyes aimed like a loaded gun
two barrels pointed
telling me to run

your lips say closer
I can't resist
you've got these arms that scream 'mine'
and i'm clutching your wrist

play with the devil
then tease me the same
i know it's you
that wants to scream my name

I'm no snake
you're no fool
take some
or take it all

Life's Last Laugh
Caitlin Ellis Apr 2019
I thought distance had humor
that it partners with life
quietly snickering
hand in hand modelling mischief

But there is no game, really
the naked truth being
that I am here
and you are not

that the only thing that would go better
hand in hand
is us
and the only naked truth
being our bodies

Mother Dear
Caitlin Ellis Aug 2019
You call me selfish
then who's your slave
put this shovel in my hand
got me digging my own grave

Don't call me reckless
i'm no fool
get up off the edge
of that high lying stool

I'm only young mother dear
why do you fear
you should know now you can't keep
a free bird near

Night Song
Caitlin Ellis Apr 2019
My body aches
in memory of the night's embrace
running dreams and a fractured picture of your face
as I saw you
thought 'this is the right time and place'
some would say fate
or a tribute to the many other wasted days

The nights are made for your sideways glances
for the love you breathe and a million chances
held your hand in search for answers

strained, wired, so very tired
and I am reminded
of your smile, by the light i'm blinded

I belong to the night
Caitlin Ellis Dec 2018
Marry the night
A union of belonging
The absence of sun feels safe, a harness of a sunless sky

Moon light bullets onto bare walls
And stains porcelain white sheets, star flecked and luminous
Softening the harshness of night’s black

Marry the night
And you will never be alone

Longing Again
Caitlin Ellis Apr 2019
Yearning for love
longing again
maybe just need
another friend

He is the one
straight after the other
don't think we belong
to one another

Forced it once
said "never again"
but here I am
backwards in bend

I'm yearning for love
longing for a lover
I think you are too
why the **** do we bother?

I'll Keep You
Caitlin Ellis Dec 2018
Keep it gentle, clear and free
Keep it right here, right here with me

Keep it, love it and leave it be
Keep it thriving and you will see

Keep it in the cool of the night
Keep it under the blanket of star light

Keep it in your hands, and grip it tight
Keep it not far from your sight

Keep me and i'll keep you
Keep us together under this here moon

Keep me and i'll keep you
Keep us together under this full moon
