“Sweethearts”

Imagine thinking you have it all figured out,
naive to what love is really about.
Holding hands through the halls,
Pictures of you two together on the walls.

I remember I burned CDs for you,
ditched my friends just to be with you.

Voted, “most favorable couple to get married.”
If only we could’ve ditched the bags we carried.
Looking at those rings scared me,
I braved the thoughts cuz you were the one I’d marry.

I thought I found the one,
back when all you had to worry about was fun.
I knew once the fun was over, you’d be done,
Because every time it got too serious, you’d run.

“Free.”
We were opposites, we could never agree,
He held me back, I couldn’t be what I wanted to be.
After all of the fighting, after all of the wars, I was finally free,
Now, Here I am crying, on my knees..
Suffering from PTSD.

“You love me”
& if I did, would I get the same in return?
Or are you going to treat me cold,
because of how you’ve been burned?
Do you love me?
& if I did, you’d never have to ask,
You need reassurance because of your past.
But with me, you’d never have to worry,
Take it at your pace, no need to hurry.

"Pain"

Once it strikes,
You'll never be the same.
Intensity spikes,
Don't know who's to blame.
Pain.
Is it your fault,
Or is it mine?
If it's a wound, this is the salt,
Mixed with tears, for the brine.
Pain.
A Distressing feeling,
& a sign of life.
Blessings after the healing,
Mind & heart constantly at strife..
Pain.
An invisible stain,
On your soul.
There's always something to gain,
No matter what they stole.
Pain.
Something you live with forever,
Tucked away into hiding.
Feel Alone, like a letter,
Forcing that smile gets tiring,
Pain.
A symptom of an underlying condition,
You'll get good, never better.
Purple Heart from the missions,
Sunken ship, full of treasure.
Pain.
Triggered by the nervous system,
your whole mindset starts to change.
Want revenge, so you grab the pistol,
like one bullet can ease your..
Pain.

"The Perfect Storm"

The rain won't last forever,
The light after the dark, sign for the better.
Constantly stressed and feeling alone,
Going to your house, that's not a home.
I understand your emptiness,
Wanting love, a little tenderness.
You're Craving consistency,
Giving love, receiving differently.
You have so much to offer,
You're writing the perfect story, you just need a co-author.
The storm is just passing,
Starving for love, feel like your fasting.
Work is stressful and taking a toll
Taking a part of you, making you less whole.
I know what you're going through with family,
It kills you, like it kills me, but zero casualties.
Because we're stronger than we have to be.
Full of stress, reaching full capacity.
Looking up to sky, and the sun's shining,
Once the clouds clear, you see the stars aligning.
Just know there will always be better days,
The rain comes and goes...
                     but it never stays.

"For Better or For Worse."

“For Better”

We’ve been married for a  couple years now, I can’t believe it!
I prefer to give love, she taught me how to receive it.
Life is good now, a woman can change how you perceive it,
a sacred bond, I vowed to never deceive it..

“For Worse”
We’ve been married a few years now, our love seems forced.
I’ve been giving my love to someone else & I feel no remorse.
He stopped chasing me, which made me change my course,
Maybe if he invested that energy into me, we wouldn’t be talking about divorce.

*For Better is from a man's perspective at the beginning of marriage.
*For Worse is from a woman's perspective a few years into marriage

"Picture Perfect."
I threw away all of the pictures,
As well as anything that made me miss her.
I crushed the frame,
Because if she came back into the picture, we wouldn’t be the same.
