follow tar veins
flowing through chiseled earth
to my obfuscated world where i'll wait

and if by dawn you arrive
in your whirlwind of grace
i'll show this place

we can dance
amid notes
amid words
amid silence

if you're willing to find me
before the morn breaks

If a rose is a rose
Called by any other name
Is it still a rose, if a stem is all that remains?

Today for breakfast
Coffee and cigarettes
Kept me a fool through the morning
Liquid lunch
A six pack
Still pretty fool
And then denial for dinner
And more beer and cigarettes as dessert
Still somehow
I keep on losing wait

I
cannot help
the hands
that touch me
when they
could heal me
I know
its a distant
language
written
on my soul
I wasn't
made
to
understand
but she reads me
and I feel
her
more than
     Anything.....
                               My greatest wish
                               I couldn't say
                              is by her
                              spoken
                                my greatest hope
                              is only
                              that I could
                             hold her
                            forever
                               that we'll make love
                              while we're
                             still
                             young

Death patiently files his nails
And smokes a casual cigarette
Grinning and eyeless
He says so calmly
"Catch you later
Brave little dreamer"

Despite such brittle certainty
Men and women build
Despite such small mortality
Every space is filled
In the midst of death's destruction
Men and women build again

Fear, like a cringing bowel
Exudes an acrid stench
And whimpers and whines
Simpers and cries
"Don't you dare
Don't you ever dare"

Despite this clinging dread
Some will need to dare
Despite the bursting head
Dreams insist on birth
In the midst of our stupidities
Something wondrous strives

Things get broken
Hearts
Minds
It's no-one's fault
It never is
Not really
Butter fingers and distraction
Without malice or forethought
Things
Like hearts and minds
Slip
And shatter on hard contact with reality

On cloudless moonlit nights
When the world is silver and darkest blue
And silence seems to reign supreme
If you stretch your hearing inwards
You will hear the distant moans
Of long lost lonely dreams
Homeless and obsolete
Fading away
To become endless shadows

Run like the wind
enjoy the freedom
while you can
cars are faster
and one day
you will be corralled
neigh you may say
but tis true I reply.
