The Final Frontier

As “Danger” Donny Johnson doubtfully looked into the dark abyss,
He reminisced on his memories on earth that had led up to this.
These memories were few in number, for he could probably count them on two hands.
He lived a sub-average life, but always dreaming of new lands.
While his south-Chicago school was not up to par,
Donny was learning far beyond the bar.

The final frontier, space; he had found his calling.
A place where he could be alone.
Everyday, people pestered, poor, pathetic Donny;
His mother never paid attention, she wouldn’t listen to him moan.
His father was nowhere to be found, which was expected.
Without that second figure, Donny was just left feeling lonely and neglected.

But forward Donny tread, never looking back,
Getting good grades and keeping his life on track.
Still, no matter how hard he tried, Donny’s desire for attention never diminished,
Striving to make new friends, Donny started college with none, and sadly, that’s how he finished.
“But when I’m among the stars, there will be no need for attention,
I’ll be above all of these people, far above their comprehension.”

Eight years of college, and Danny was ready for the final step in becoming an astronaut.
NASA, he had done it.
“After all these years, mama I kid you not!”
But she still didn’t care, she thought he had wasted his life.
“Danger Donny is what they should call you, ‘cause you’re **** stupid to waste your life in space, flirtin’ with death.”
The walls Donny had built up came crashing down,
After all these years, and his mom still wanted him to stay on the ground.

“But what do you know”, Donny replied, with pools of tears in his eyes.
“My whole life you didn’t care about me. You pretended, but they were just lies!
How could you mom? You want me to quit the only thing I’m good at!”
Donny slammed down his cell phone, cried, and on the carpet he sat.

After severing all his ties, and leaving everything behind,
Donny soared to the Heavens, but stopped halfway.
He was there, he had done it;
The thing he had dreamed about almost every day.

His first space walk, the culmination of everything he had worked for.
This actually made him happy to leave his mom, that lying *****.
This was his life, one of the few people that do what they want to do.
Always had his eyes up here, through all the years that he grew.
But then, as accidents usually occur,
In a split second his rope became severed, and off Donny went.

First came panic, followed by denial, then acceptance.
Donny wondered. All he had said. Is this what he meant?
31 years of work, and this poor, intelligent man was going to die all alone.
And to think, his last conversation had been on the **** phone.

He had burned all his bridges, slammed shut all his doors just to come here.
And now what Donny longed for was in fact what he had wanted all his life,
For someone to come near.

It’s kind of funny, actually, he thought to himself.
I was gonna die alone down there anyway.
I didn’t know when it would happen,
But I guess it’s today.

As he unfastened the straps, Donny tried to recollect the few moments he had.
But Donny’s life just wasn’t great,
And his memories just made him sad.
And after pulling loose the last clasp, Donny’s helmet floated off.

Donny couldn’t breathe, and he had a feeling in his throat,
Like the urgent need to cough.
And in those last few seconds, Donny looked out, his vision crystal clear.

He had finally made it.
The final frontier.

Upon the loss of the dinosaurs, so plentiful,
Back in the land before time when life wasn’t so dull,
Tall trees, blue skies, green grasses, deep dark water,
Nature as it was meant to be, with volcanoes that couldn’t be hotter.

This was the world you lived in before it came to an end.
A meteor? A flood? Maybe. But obviously it was something you could not mend.
Velociraptor, T-Rex, Triceratops, you’re all gone.
A species once so valiant, nobody stood in their way, not one.

Shaping some of the animals we have today, dinosaurs are like, square one.
From a 40ft menace to a lone iguana, isn’t evolution fun?
The highlight of the prehistoric era,
If you think I’m awkward because of my enthusiasm for dinos, then call me Michael Cera.

Like a bad ending to a good movie,
Your demise was something that nobody wanted to see.
The world would be a better place with a dinosaur here and there.
Some people wouldn’t be a fan, but does it sound like I care?

I think every single dinosaur is badass,
Even the herbivores that only eat grass.
If you’re the type of person that’s glad dinosaurs are dead,
Then I wish it was YOU that was hit by the meteor instead.
my first dinosaur sonnet got me in trouble with my then english teacher. it was rough. so i wrote a second one.

sad
I remember that night,
You said you were alright.

I remember you saying that nothing was wrong,
and turning the radio to your favorite song.

I remember knowing that you lied.
I remember the night you died.

The day was very merry, the day was very grand,
Until Matt ruined it by getting stabbed in the hand.
He accidentally ran into a pencil,
He was showing off, just for the thrill.
In that moment, everyone was in shock,
Blood all over his shirt like a surgeon’s smock

The day was very merry, the day was very grand,
Until Matt ruined it by getting stabbed in the hand.
We ran looking for help, in that empty neighborhood,
No one seeming to notice that our situation was not good.
But alas, no one came to our rescue,
And we had no idea what to do.

The day was very merry, the day was very grand,
Until Matt ruined it by getting stabbed in the hand.
A woman drove up, in a white minivan,
She quickly saw the wound on Matt’s hand.
We gave our friend to this good samaritan,
We waved goodbye to Matt as he approached the van and got in.

The day was very merry, the day was very grand,
Until Matt ruined it by getting stabbed in the hand.
After this, we all quickly realized,
We had given our friend to a stranger, and had even said our goodbyes.
We knew we had to find him, and it had to be soon,
We feared matt would be riding to his impending doom.
So we went, house to house, knocking on every door,
Until we found the right one, and we were rid of our horror.

it doesn’t matter where you get your inspiration from
as long as you don’t believe that inspiration makes you better than some
and if you aren’t inspired, remember there are always more ideas to come
from the richest neighbourhood to the poorest slum
that homeless man you thought was dumb
that businessman that you thought was ****
it doesn’t matter where you get your inspiration from
as long as you don’t believe that inspiration makes you better than some

it’s hard having a normal sized torso while fitted with 10 foot legs,
it’s like living with legs as long as trees and as wide as beer kegs,
i’ve never gone on a successful shopping trip in my life,
everything bought online, even though it’s convenient, i’m still filled with strife

as you may have guessed, getting out of cars is a nightmare,
like some awkward mutant trying to get out of a bmw makes a whole crowd stop and stare,
contrary to popular belief, i never played ball or played any sports at all,
so clumsy, if you ever saw me on the court you’d be appalled

grocery shopping is more difficult than you would anticipate,
the simple task of reaching the top shelf effortlessly makes an awe-filled crowd congregate
some kind of genetic monstrosity, why did it have to be this way,
i would like to cut half of my legs off, if i may

but alas, maybe one thing i could excel at,
something to give me hope, to not make my dreams flat
i could be an accountant! an awkward, tall accountant!
they barely get up, with no physical labor, this is the answer to my prayer, my covenant!

i started my job as an accountant, and everything was going great
i vowed to get all my work done, and never be late
but then i remembered that i failed math 3 times in high school
i don’t really want to be an accountant anymore, i feel like a fool
