i’ve dated boys who didn’t make me laugh,
boys who took me to stuffy museums and bland restaurants
and told me i should be veiling my hair in church
i thought i was doing the right thing, i thought
my parents would be proud of me,
i thought maybe i could conjure up
some kind of feeling in my stubborn heart
that would make it worth my while,
everything i was always
supposed to want
in one

instead,
i found you:
a boy who likes silly accents and sneakers and
telling jokes that turn me
into puddles at his feet,
who lives with his mother
and makes art from obscure things,
who paints just to get the words out and
never matches his clothes
bright eyes begging me to follow, making it up as we go along,
who needs the rule book, who has time to read?
and if there is a better way, we don’t need it;
we’ll take the mess. see,
we’re already there, and
if there is a better way, i wouldn’t know it

internet and polaroids
life's good in pictures
curated priceless moments
we create worlds
here on the internet
connecting we those
we will never see

chatting over virtual
back fences about
children, cats, recipes

we meet those who
have similar views
and those who don't
discuss things of import
show sympathy with
sad faced emoticons

we wish each others pets
happy birthdays with
cartoon characters

we share our art, music
and photography
then there are us poets
who write our hearts
for others to see

it is a melting ***
of thought and culture
of the full spectrum
of ability.....

it is a place of secrets
or exhibitionist excess

it is in many ways a wonder
and many ways a curse

the internet, really
just like the bottom
of an old ladies purse
full of useless lint and
used tissues, but if you
ferret arond long enough
you will find a dollar
or a hard candy
Roses aren't always red
& voilets aren't exactly blue,
The society we live in
Never seems to speak the truth.

Smiles aren't always happy
& frowns aren't always upset,
People judge too quickly
our feeling are what they forget.

Shakespeare once said
"My mistresses eyes are nothing like the sun"
But oh how her eyes are now the sun itself and when i cross pathes with them my eyes are set a blaze.
When she gazes apon me I feel the rays of her past hatred leisurely creep across my spine and seep into my skin towards my already separated heart.

I'm not sure if he knows
that often, my eyes are without mascara
and lack the soft sweep of a muted brown

Does he realise
my limbs are not long and slender
and definitely not as lean as they once were

Is he aware
that my stomach is no longer flat
or even slightly firm but rounded and fleshy

Does he know all this
because each day
he looks at me as if I am beautiful
When drinking that wine,
Recognize the sign,
And draw the line.

With each greasy bite,
Try something lite,
To balance out the fight.

It’s fine to unwind,
But don’t be confined,
Exercise the body and mind.

Live in moderation,
Building a strong foundation,
One based on calculation.
