Somebody to Someone
Allison C Jan 2012
Life turns around in a moment
And leaves you with whiplash
You fall to the ground, breathless
As people walk on by you
Oblivious to all pain you suffer
You walk around and stumble
Into people’s lives, going unnoticed
Like a ghost that passes through
Unseen by everyone
Because no one wants to believe it
No one wants to bother with you
And the only friend you have
The shadow that walks in the night
Next to you, lonely as you feel
Is gone now, the moon’s taken it
And hidden it away, out of sight
The water from the rain
Gushes around your feet and continues
On its beaten path, not noticing
That someone is standing there
Occupying that space
But it doesn’t care, it’s moving on
But despite how lonely you feel
No matter how invisible you may seem
There is one person who is worse off
Than you
Because you don’t know them
But you are somebody to someone
As they watch you walk by
And give you a glimpse of hope
When you are down for the count
They offer all they have
Just to see that smile on your face
But you are one more person
Who doesn’t notice them in the crowd
But it matters to them not;
As long as you notice that one little deed
They think about you every night
Before they fall asleep
While you wish for people to notice you
You continue to ignore that someone
And wallow in your own pity
As you look over your shoulder
And see even your shadow has gone
And taken flight into the night sky
Look closer and you’ll find
That you are somebody to someone
And you are just one more person to them
Who doesn’t notice that someone
And appreciate that someone
As they only friend they have
In this big, lonely world
So the next time you look behind you
Thinking you are abandoned once more
Find that someone in the darkness
Reach out to them and say
“You are somebody to someone”
