Today we got them What I've been waiting an eternity for We lost them for years Perhaps centuries We have missed their presence But now their back The golden treasure Lays enclosed in its chest And once opened releases a world of happiness The Girl Scout cookies
The soft quiet whirring of the warm gentle dryer It puts me to sleep when it's running As I lie in my bed The sound goes through my head And I drift to another place The washer on the other hand Is a whole nother story It's loud and it's clunky And when it has finished it makes an abominable din It beaps with ferocity matching a lion But it is only able to call like a cat It's racket just barely makes it through the floor And it sticks in the back of your brain It will drive you crazy Make your head go hazy Unless your turn it off
Sound asleep as he's been for a while Laying by the fire and purring softly In the winter he does nothing Until his brother pats him with a paw And the chase begins Down the hall and up the stairs Over the couch and through the table legs Around chairs they fly All the while making playful noises They use my backpack as a shield My iPad as a launch pad And my notebook as a lancing strip It impedes my ability to do homework And makes me mad But it makes me laugh too
It's the absent step The lion to sheep The drop of the heart And the miss of a beat Turn of the crowd There's nothing to adjust It comes without warning Our insides combust Panic
The sharp, shiny talons Slashing the air like swords Defending the castle of straw None dare go near Their wing fiercer than the icy wind Pounding the air like hammers on steel The wings darken the sky with a mission in their eyes Six legged beings escaping the wrath The trees bent with their weight Above all in their path
